[for Ronon]

May 25, 2009 23:08

Jennifer had been spending less time in New Atlantis since the whole mess with Ronon happened. She still saw him for their regular sparring sessions (well, lessons for her, probably boredom for him) and around and about, but it was just weird now. Something was different. She couldn't explain why, except that she couldn't help but think that Ronon ( Read more... )

Ronon had started a sketch and soon realised he didn't have the patience for it. He eyes a small carving he'd been whittling for Vala's baby and picked it up before deciding to go for a run. But when he got up he saw Jennifer heading his way.

Jennifer set the Socks down and Ronon watched the kitten race towards the sketch pad moving it at the last minute - this earned him a outraged hiss but he ruffled the annoyed kitten's fur and dodged her tiny claws as she instead turned to attention to a bit of wood shaving she could bat around.

"Hey," he said shifting awkwardly - he knew she'd been avoiding him, he really should make it clear she didn't have to.

Ronon shrugged, he was happy to leave the kitten to her own devices. He dropped down to where he'd been sitting before whittling, resting his back against the hut. He cleared away wood shavings from the spot next to him, glancing at Jennifer hoping she would join him.

Jennifer got the hint, coming to sit beside Ronon, a little closer than she might have before. "So," she said, nodding at the shavings. "What were you working on before I showed up?"

Ronon held out the unfinished piece for Jennifer to see. "Baby toy for Vala." Well not her exactly but he'd made them for the twins and they were something useful. "Still needs work."

"That's really nice," Jennifer said. "Is that like the ones you made for the Turner boys?" She knew Ronon checked in on Robbie and the boys regularly, as she did. Poor guy, all by himself.

She reached over to touch the rattle, brushing Ronon's hand on the way. It was just a little brush, but it reminded her how nice it had felt to have Ronon's hand holding hers a few minutes ago.

"Yeah," Ronon said. "Figured I should stick with what worked." Rattles were easy enough. When she reached out and touched the rattle he let her take it. He wasn't going to even pretend like wood work was on his mind right now and he dropped an arm round her shoulders pulling her close.

Again with the unexpected, but also nice, Jennifer thought, and she leaned her head against his shoulder. "I almost chickened out of coming over here," she admitted. This was a lot easier to say since he wasn't looking directly at her. "I'm glad I didn't."

Ronon leaned in, "I'm glad too." He wouldn't have said anything - he had misread things entirely and he last thing he wanted was to make her more uncomfortable. "I thought you only liked me when you were nuts."

Jennifer shook her head. "Oh, no," she said. "It was just that when I was crazy I had the nerve to admit it." She looked a little sheepish as she added, "I've liked you for a while now."

Ronon's face was very close to hers now, and she leaned over to kiss him briefly. "I've wanted to do that ever since we were stuck in the infirmary."

Ronon grinned. "Liked you before that," he said. He didn't say that it had only been then he had finally decided to do something about it. Slowly. He kept her close after she kissed him, inhaling the scent of her and feeling strangely content - more so than he had been the whole time they'd been stuck here. "We could go camping again," he suggested - it seemed a good way to get some time to themselves.

"Sounds good," Jennifer replied, feeling slightly giddy but trying not to show it. Don't act like an idiot, she told herself, even though she really wanted to kiss him again. And she was just about to when a small furry object propelled itself right into their laps with a mrow of protest.

"Socks!" Jennifer yelped. "Bad kitty!" Socks sat on her leg and stared up at them as if demanding they pay attention to her or there would be hell to pay.

Ronon reached out to pet the cat and she hissed at him and swiped at his hand before making an attempt to bite him. "Either she disapproves of me or she's hungry," Ronon joked as the kitten failed to get purchase on his knuckle before stamping across to knit at the fabric of his trousers furiously.

"Probably hungry and mad that we aren't paying her the attention she thinks she deserves," she said, laughing. "I should probably take her home and feed her. Spoiled thing," she added affectionately, petting her head. "Just spoiled."

"I'll see you later?" She attempted to pry the cat loose from Ronon's pants, which took a little bit as even though Socks was obviously hungry and ready to go, she loved to aggravate Ronon. Typical cat.
