[for Ronon] Valentine's Day

Feb 10, 2009 18:20

It was nuts. And frankly, Jennifer hated it. She had always thought Valentine's Day was a stupid, over-commercialized holiday (and not just because she'd never had a boyfriend to send her stuff). One of the many good things about Atlantis was that no one had seemed to go for all that romantic gushy stuff--no time for it when you're fighting Wraith ( Read more... )

Ronon had taken one look at the red ribbons and glitter all over his hut and decided he was not putting up with it. He had gone to the task force training went to the compound - he had regretted going to the compound once he had seen it. The garishness had been enough to hurt his eyes. It seemed that he was to be forcibly educate regarding earth holidays and he had decided not to put up with it.

He'd found some sort of duffle bag in the compound, packed up some essentials and had found Jennifer chasing Socks out of her hut. "Knock that off Boots," he told it as it attacked his boot until he shook her gently off. He looked at Jennifer and shouldered the bag again. "I'm heading into the jungle until this is done," he said. It was only because she didn't look that impressed that he decided to offer, "you want to come?"

"Heading into the jungle?" she asked skeptically. "What are you going to do out there? Besides not get assaulted by balloons," she added, as a red heart-shaped one drifted by. Socks chased it for a little bit and then pounced on Ronon's boot-lace.

"I'm going to stay out there," he said, "until this all goes. It's stupid." He didn't see what funny shaped balloons had to do with love at all or any of the other holiday traditions. If it was a holiday thing that would only be a day. If it was like when he'd woke up as a woman it would be four days - so easy either way.

"Well, it beats death by glitter," she said with a shrug, nodding at the pink and silver glitter that had been sprinkled all over her door and front step. She made a face. "It's one of the more ridiculous earth holidays. Guilting people into buying overpriced junk as a commercialized expression of love." She sighed and bent to pick up the kitten, who was tangled up in the ribbon.

"Sure, I'll go with you," she said. It wasn't like she had any plans for Valentine's Day. It was just another day. "Just um... I don't think Socks is ready to stay by herself too long. She's too little. I'll ask Elizabeth if she minds looking after her."

Ronon watched the kitten attempt to shred the ribbon despite being picked up - it could be very single minded when it tried. "So it's even more pointless here," he said, a holiday to sell stuff kind of relied on the island having some sort of monetary system which it neither had or needed.

He grinned when she accepted and dismissed the significance of the holiday - he just wanted to spend time with her. "Ok," he said, dropping the bag while he waited for her to go check with Weir.
