Intelligent TV is pretty hard to find. Enjoyable intelligent TV even more so. What seems to evade programmer's notice is that just as highbrow TV 'locks out' a percentage of the population due to intelligence, pitching low doesn't actually make the entire intelligence spectrum want to tune in.
Forks and pins planned two moves in advance are devastating against the typical highly intermittent player.

Still, my main concern is that shit TV, and by extension a dumbed-down culture, is akin to shit wine: if that's all you've ever experienced you won't know any better. Imagine only ever having eaten Hershey's Kisses, and being kept in the dark about the existence of, say, Valrhona... (Hell, my favourite chocolate at the moment is the co-op dark with orange oil and spices) :P

I really enjoy Mythbusters at the moment. Easy watching and educational.
Only a few chapters in at the moment. Use of synesthasia [eeek! sp!] is indeed pure evil.
