Why did the vet prescribe de-worming pills? Because your dog has worms, or is it preventative like Heartgard? If your dog has worms, could it be possible that the piles of puke were because of the worms?

My dog had tapeworms when I first got him, and did not have a bad reaction to the de-worming medicine at all. He also loves his monthly Heartgard, because it comes in a tasty liver chewable.

Heartgard (or the equivalent) is something you need to give your dog monthly for the rest of its life, as heartworm is a horrible way to die.

There have been some great replies to other posts regarding separation anxiety. I've never had to deal with it but I know some in the community have.

If your dog does indeed have worms you should definitely give her the dewormer. Even if it does cause a little stomach upset it's much healthier for her than letting her continue to live with worms. Worms can cause a whole range of health problems and could be responsible for the puke you've been finding. It's also possible for the worms to get passed on to you since you are the one picking up her puke/poop. Be sure to wash all puke areas very very well and wash your hands! We just finished deworming our new pup. She had lose stool for the first day (it was also full of worms) but after that she was fine. She had to go through two rounds of worming and I didn't notice any ill effects the second time.

I'm also questioning if you have preventative care or a treatment. My dog came to me LOADED with parasites and was given a one time dose paste at the vets and then preventative. She had no stomach upset other than a few problems passing such a large worm load. If you're concerned about the pills ask your vet about the paste. If its just heartguard or something similar, I'd def give her the meds. My dog has the weakest stomach you can imagine and she's fine.

As far as the SA, there has been some really good stuff recently.

If the vet gave you a 'dewormer' vs a 'wormer prevent-er' (so to speak) then its possible that during her last exam they noticed that she had worms. If it's a preventative measure such as Heartguard or the alike..you should be fine. Give it to her once a month, every month. If she has worms, then she needs to be treated and treated properly ( ... )
