Happily (for me) I'm an optimist in these cases, because I put no stock on elections. That narrow sector would have benefitted just as much from policies introduced by any Labour governement capable of governing. And everyone else would have paid for it just as they will now. How is that optimistic? Because people haven't lost anything by "losing" an election. There is no tragedy here. If they want change they're going to have to go out and make it, just as would have been the case with any other result. And maybe now that the left-inclined have lost any hope of the governement introducing said change, they might be more minded to act politically in the day to day than if they could feel justified in delegating to the "leaders" and doing their "civic duty" twice a decade.
