Momentary Movie Squee ...

So how awesome is the new Bond? Yes, I'm slow to the party, but that's only because, on a very basic level, I just don't like Bond. But my hubs does, so we Netflixed Casino Royal and HOLY HELL. I like Bond now!

Okay, that's all I wanted to say. Now back to your regularly scheduled Supernatural fangirling ...

That's good to know. Bond has always been pretty meh with me 'cause even tho' Sean Connery is ultra-cool, the jokey vibe doesn't do it for me. I want an action movie to be an action movie, not soft-core porn with puns and a skiing sequence. So this Bond looks like my cup of tea.

I've always been told the only reason Tim Dalton is my favorite Bond is because I don't like the whole concept of Bond ... which I had to kind of agree with. Their point seemed to be the teflon man with more teflon underneath and a quip for ever situation. And that doesn't strike like a real person to me so much as simply a characature. So even though, as you point out, Sean was ultra-cool and mister hip, the lack of any kind of humanity I could see to the character kept me for ever enjoying the movies ( ... )

It's beyond awesome. I watched it a while ago and I'm still having drool. ;)

But, Daniel Hotness aside, it's pretty much the only Bond movie that felt like a real spy movie. Amazing, esp the chasing sequences.

Absolutely. He captured the perfect mix between detatchment and attachment. And the actor did an amazing job of looking absolutely "I don't care" in a way that made you KNOW he cared, he just wasn't going to show it ... and you weren't sure why or how he cared, he maintained that level of enigma in how he was under the mask ( ... )

Absolutely. He captured the perfect mix between detatchment and attachment. I think the essence of him is right in this sentence.

I knew he was my James Bond as soon as I saw the trailer. And then saw Daniel's acting in Layer Cake. I was a goner.

Also, the thing about this James Bond that I love is the perfect male balance. Here is a guy that can give you space but won't take shit. That can express desire (if only physical) without leer or pseudo-emo. Just a clean-cut (in a way) male, with an old time kind of chivalry. Of a sort.

Don't know how to express it better.

Sounds perfectly expressed to me. :D I have a big squee for the somewhat emotionally constipated, tortured hero and Craig hit it right on the nose, the same way Jeff does.

Yeah, I was digging Daniel Craig.

Watching Casino Royale led to wandering thoughts: that if the Winchesters were all blond, then Daniel Craig would so be John Winchester. I couldn't find myself any blond Winchester sons, tho.

How's that for tying Bond and Winchester together?

LOL. Actually, I saw a LOT of commonality between this Bond and John, especially in the chase sequences when he's looking down at the cranes, trying to figure out how to mimic what the bouncy guy did. And his just "well, fuck it, if he can do it, I can do it" jump into oblivion. That was so John it killed me. And the going THROUGH the wall rather than trying to jump through the opening in the wall? I damn near had a stroke laughing at that. We had to stop the movie so I could get it out of my system before we could go on.

So yeah, I see some commonalities between Bond, James Bond as Craig plays him and Winchester, John Winchester.
