Not My Problem

While I could be wrong, I suspect that, when it comes to my thoughts on The Dark Side of the Moon, I will yet again find myself swimming upstream against the overwhelming current of the fandom flow. Being the intrepid salmon that I am, however, until such time as I find myself flopping about on the beach, well and truly eviscerated by some snaggle- ( Read more... )

Dodger- wow! just thank you. You've opened my eyes and have really gotten me to see beyond the episode

So good to hear. I figured I'd get a bunch of flack for loving this episode when I expect the vast majority of fandom to hate it. Although, in all truth, I'm assuming that fandom will hate it based on past patterns of like and dislike as they align with how the show treats the subjects of God and Dean. Wild cards being what they are, fandom might prove me totally wrong and all love this episode, in which case my entire perception of self shatters in being part of the majority rather than a card-carrying member of the freakin minority. :D

I have to admit that I amongst those that "hated" it although I'm more depressed then feeling hatred. I guess because I feel that the fangirl in me is disappointed with the turn of the events and it's overpowering the viewer in me.

Dodger--I absolutely adore this meta because I honestly didn't think of the Cain/Abel conflict in the biblical aspect that you pointed out (I should have because I did a paper on it LOL).

Yeah, God does love all his children and despite that has selective punishments for them when they get out of line.

I just wonder what would be Lucifer's redemption but I do like the fact that you point out that it just might be Sam who will be the one who will save everyone in the end because he's the second son who is the rebel. Especially since I don't think that in the final scene, it was by accident that the buttons on Sam's shirt are shaped in the form of a cross...

Dodger you rock!

It brings to mind the following poem.

A man said to the universe:
"Sir I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."

It's 3:35 in the freakin' AM here. I *must* get sleep. I've only read a portion of what you've written. WILL read the rest - carefully and slowly after several hours of sleep - which is why I knew I had to stop. I was rushing through it, trying to cram it all in. But what you've written here? Deserves to be slowly, carefully read - with time taken to think about and absorb your words. Why?

Because you freakin' ROCK!! Even the portion of the meta I've read is making me think about Show in new ways. For instance:

I'd never considered Castiel in the role you have him here. I may actually be one of the few people in fandom who haven't really liked the character. Until now. Now he makes sense. Thank you for that.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this meta tomorrow - and to seeing if/how my perceptions of Show change further. ::waves:: g'nite.

I'll look forward to your thoughts when you're fresh as a daisy. I considered holding off on writing this until I'd gotten some sleep myself (tends to cut down on the times I misuse who's for whose and other such grammatical attrocities as are born of a tired mind), but decided in the long run it was better to get my thoughts down while they were fresh and unslept upon. A more typo-riddled meta, but more reflective of my unfiltered thinking on the issues in play ...

I really really really really really love these thoughts. You took the lines I had already been thinking along and pushed them forward about a hundred degrees. Awesome.

My expectations are very high. But, as you said, this is chaos theory.

And we already saw the practical application of string theory and how a wee little man used that to our advantage.

LOL. Indeed. Wee little men rock. :D

To be perfectly honest, I've tried very hard to have no expectations of SPN, particularly in terms of its theological mythos, simply because they've spent more time pissing me off on that front than making me happy, so I eventually had to hunker down and tuck in tight on the subject of God and angelic lore to keep from jumping ship altogether.

So this episode? Came as a very, very, very welcome relief to what has been, for me, a very, very, very long dry spell on profound content in terms of mythos. And a big surprise in many ways. A great surprise, but a big one, too.

Oh, yes, I was extremely (pleasantly) surprised, too. This season has been very up and down for me in terms of squee, and when I'm not squeeful I tend to shut down and not participate much. So now, suddenly, I'm reading all the reactions I can get my hands on and writing meta and engaging in discussion and it's really, really refreshing, as you said, almost shockingly so. I didn't know that Show could grab me like this anymore.

So I'm hopeful, yes, and also rather frightened that they'll screw me over again. Sadly.

I know the feeling. The nearly overwhelming desire to get all dancy-pants with glee over an episode like this only to remember a disturbing number of WTFAYD?!? (What The Fuck Are You Doing?!?) mythos episodes that have beaten me into the submissive pose of doing my best to just enjoy the show for what it is instead of getting my panties in a suffocatingly tight twist over what it could so easily be and so often isn't.

But try as I might to be jaded for my own protection of spirit (TV's tough; wear a cup), episodes like this give me wild hope in spite of myself. Enough hope, at least, to drive me to meta-ing with a joy reminiscent of days gone by.

Have I told you lately that I love you? No? Well I do and that little thinky head of yours.
90% of the time you hit the nail on the head of what I'm hoping happens. This is prime example.

LOL. Thank you. I love you, too ... in case I hadn't mentioned that lately either. :D

I bow before thee in reverence!... Your outstanding superiority in theology and human psychology among others is unbelivable and very educative. Truly, I'm glad to know you ma,am!

One thing, I teared up at the scene of Dean's memory with young Sam in the field! I will cherish it always, just so you know...

I loved all of their memories, both in how they were articulated and within the internal logic of how they unfolded. Brilliance. And my favorite line of the episode, and perhaps the whole series? In response to "I thought the had a perfect marriage" Dean saying "It was never perfect until after she died."

I almost died right then, at that moment, for there could never be a more perfect thing said in all of SPN than simply that.

Oh, was that said while I was continually distracted by the I Wuv Hugz shirt on Deano!?!! I'm kidding... That was really a very mature moment in the series. Also, I feel that it further grounds the mythology in some capacity as well.

Jensen looked so cute though! I wanted to smish him...

I truly and deeply loved all of the memory scenes, and how specific and spot-on they were to the childhood those boys must have lived to be the men they grew up to be ... an aspect I find almost universally SCREWED on the show, but that this time, they got so right it hurts ( ... )
