For all of y'all who hang out and/or zip by my journal every now and again, here's a little something-something I thought y'all might like. I'm not going to post any teasers outside the cut because honestly? This is just for y'all, not for anyone wandering by who wouldn't normally read but might be tripped by the pretty. So here you go. Have fun, ( Read more... )

beautiful pics! seriously! how did you get them to have a painting feel to them? LOL 'cos they look more like paintings than photos which is so wonderful!

For the most part, that is just a side effect of shooting at a really high ISO for low light, which gives you a significant amount of grain in the photos. And because these are such high rez photo in the originals, downsizing them to acceptable web size allows me to pull in close, but also fuzzes them a bit in the resampling to the downsize, to in sharpening them back up a bit, you get a sharpening of the grain pattern, too ... all of which (in combination with extensive color correction and light adjustments) made them a bit painterly, even though that wasn't really my intention on any active level.

Ooooo. They are massive amounts of perfect! Sometimes Jared is so damn pretty it is scary. Steve turned out better than I could have imagined.

Several of the Steve ones I took for you turned out nice. This one was the best and I was trying to cherrypick so I wouldn't crash anyone's computer, but I'll send you the others when I have a second or two.

Sweet as :-) What filter did you put them through?

Thank you...

You're welcome. Not a filter so much as the combined effect of shooting at a high ISO and sharpening the grain pattern significantly to clean up the images in the downsizing of them. The original photos are 10megs each, and you end up getting a LOT of fuzz resampling to a downsize, so with such a significant grain pattern from the high ISO and relatively significant changes in both color correction and lighting, you get this kind of effect without really filtering them so much as just sharping them back to their orignal focus.

Awww they're just lovely! Jared's got to have one of the nicest smiles ever!

Love the background to these photos - it almost makes it look like these are paintings rather than photos!!

He does have the sweetest smile, eh? That painting in the background is a major pain in the ass, particularly when it comes to focus; but that's the venue they had them in, so I used it as best I could. For the most part, though, I would like to just clock the nits behind the scenes for not having enough common sense to take the painting down or move the stage over just a bit so photos could have an uncomplicated background that wouldn't draw away from the people we are shooting.

Ah well. Can't have everything, eh? :D
