The Mummy Lives!

I'll admit, I was a little skeptical of a third Mummy installment without Oded (given that Ardeth was about 99% of what I enjoy about the first two and Vasloo was the other 1%), BUT The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was a hoot and a half. Just about the perfect popcorn movie: an awesome balance of humor, action and heart. Great sfx and John  ( Read more... )

Completely agree!

I haven't seen it yet. Curious though...did Rachel come back to play Evie? Didn't look like her on the trailer but then I'm watching a TV that is the 3rd of the size as my usual after it died and until I get it fixed.

Nope. They re-cast her role with Maria Bello. Who, oddly enough, I actually like better in it, particularly in how they've aged the character in this movie from where she was in the last two.

And their solution to that choice to re-cast rather than work around Rachel's unavialability with some hokey plot device or create another character to the invalidation of the "soul mates" aspect of the O'Connells? Was freakin brilliant. And hilarious. And incredibly sly.

I actually found much of the humor in this one to be much smarter and slyer than either of the two previous Mummys ... something I very much enjoyed.

Fantastic. I'm gonna see it then. Probably by myself, because my husband is way too film snobby for the likes of Mummy III, but I bet I'll like it. I also like popcorn and diet coke, so I'll enjoy myself no matter what.

I'm usually the film snoot in my house; but I have a serious love of both action flicks and martial arts that occasionally gets us both in the "are we seriously watching this piece of crap?" land. But this one was just a hoot and a half on all fronts. Great action movie, great martial arts (what little there was of it, but with Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li, you don't need all that much in order to be really, really happy ... although I was a bit weepy that Russ didn't get to do any dancing), and funny as hell in all the right, sly ways.

I hadn't heard either. We were sitting there, and he shows up, and I actually said, out loud (rather loudly), "Holy crap! That's Russ!"

My hubs loves going to movies with me. :D

I freaking LOVED Vanishing Son. If I could find that damn series on DVD, that would complete my "I loved that show so much and no one else has ever even HEARD of it" collection.

The scene between Jet and Russ in Romeo was awesome. Absolute killer. Almost as good as the one between Jet and Mark Dacascos in Cradle to the Grave. Why yes, I AM always rooting for the bad guy. Why do you ask? *snerk*

One of the only bitches I had with Mummy 3, in fact (other than it not having Oded in it), was that Russell didn't get any martial art action. Seems like a crock to have someone that good in it without letting him show a little game. *pouts*

a Jet Li/Michelle Yeoh asskicking dance

If I wasn't already planning on going to see it, this would have cinched it right there. ;-P

I'm with you on that one - Swoon. My other 1% - John Hannah - love him!

Going to see it this weekend - Nice to know it's not a total train wreck
