These Are My People. Here's My Patch.

I was just flipping back and forth between two TV shows - one was an SVU episode where the perp was played by Michael Trucco (you know him as Anders on BSG) and A Cinderella Story on ABC Family. This is a weird enough combination as is, but Trucco also played the uncle of Chad Michael Murray’s character on One Tree Hill - so the combo of watching ( Read more... )

cartoons are for everyone!, the nephew, birthdays, the bff is my bestest best friend, family circus, one tree hill is my after-school special, videos - various, jason london is delicious, dogs and virgins, my grandparents - my heroes, musicals - life with song, tivo and i will be in my bunk, real life, youtube is an alien-virus, chad michael murray is my douchebag

I was actually just thinking about your Grandpa the other day, hoping all was well. Congratulations to him on making it to 92. That's dang impressive.

The Nephew continues to be a source of amusement that's for sure. I'm actually not surprised he knows all the song. We as older kids, adults, find something we like and memorize the shit out of it, little kids do the same thing. Except where we end up creepy fanboys, they're adorable little prodigys! lol

I saw Les Mis I think in elementary school on a field trip and remember being very impressed. I've never seen it as an adult though. The vids make me think I need to rectify that.

Grandpa has good days and bad days. He gets confused easier these days, but when he is awake and alert, he seems pretty good. My grandma has gotten him some large print books and I think reading even a little bit every day has helped a ton.

I didn't even know The Nephew could sing! I warp shape him into the ultimate fanboy as best I can but thank goodness his dad has remembered to get on the musical-love early.

Kids actually have an easier time with memorizing than we do, because they are still learning their language skills. You know the song at the beginning of Beauty and The Beast that is half in French? I had this girl at one of the daycares I worked at, she had just turned 3 years old and she could sing that whole damn song, even the french bits. It was amazing.

Elementary school? I am impressed because my school didn't even take field trips like that in high school. It was a crappy school ( ... )

It's good to hear your Grampa doing well. I believe I've heard if you can keep your brain active it's a very good thing as you age. So the reading probably does help a great deal.

Oh, I hadn't heard about a Les Mis movie. Hugh Jackman is practically a religious experience so it ought to be good.

I agree, there's nothing like a live performance. I'll keep an eye on my local theater company. It seems to me Les Mis comes through every couple of years or so.

Glad to get a grandpa update, that was a cute story. And the nephew, aaaauuuggghhh! Love it. He sounds fabulous. I have the same kind of amazing pride in my niece, who at fourteen plays four instruments, is an amazing photographer, and is just all-around way cooler than me.

I always love Grandpa telling stories about the navy - he is a fantastic story-teller.

The Nephew is the most adorable thing ever. I am so proud of what a cool kid he is turning out to be. I mean, he likes comics and video games and good tv shows and now, apparently, musicals!

She sounds awesome! I know, how are all these kids cooler than us? My cousin's 11yr old is learning to play the drums - I mean, how is he that cool? I remember when he wouldn't sleep in his own bed and now he is learning to play the drums because, in his words, "That's what the ladies like."
