Today is my sister’s birthday! Happy Birthday to her! It’s weird, because we are LJ friends - even though she isn’t really on anymore - but I still get LJ notifications for her birthday, so I guess I will never forget ( Read more... )

Veterans from any service, from any time period, are always brothers. It's a rule. Also, no matter where a vet goes, he or she will ALWAYS encounter another vet. That's a law of nature.

Yep. That's the rule. My dad has discovered how you can find other vets on the internet now and he is marveled by the idea of it. ;)

Thanks! I almost told this one at his funeral, but then someone else got up to speak and I was kind of relieved - public speaking, not really my favorite thing.

That's a wonderful memory of Grandpa meeting one of his 'brothers' and having such a good conversation with him -- of events that surely very few but they could truly understand.

And happy birthday to sister! If she was still on LJ I'd be happily posting a greeting. I hope she's doing well, and I still re-read her great hobbit stories.

It's like this grand common bond - we don't know each other, but we do know each other...kind of thing.
