And Now Back to Your Regularly Scheduled SPN

.
Devil's Trap is still spinning around in my skull, bruising up my brain, so I decided maybe it was time to try to put some of that kinetic energy to good use. Or use, at least. But given that I have no story to write on the subject, and no heart to write whatever story I might find if I looked, I decided to try something different.

In that vein, this is kind of an experiment. I don't know what I think of it yet. I don't even know if it's finished or not. Usually, in this sort of thing, words tend to replace themselves with better words until an equilibrium of sorts is found. Don't know if I'm there yet or not, but figured I go ahead and shake the bottle to see if it fizzes.

Title: The Hunt No More
Author: dodger_winslow
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating: Gen
Spoilers: The whole arc through Devil's Trap
Warnings: Character Death ... kinda
Disclaimers: I don't own the boys, I'm just stalking them for a while.

Notes: This is experiment. This is only an experiment. If this were an actual poem, you would be given directions on how to interpret it. But this is only experiment. And now, back to your regularly scheduled Supernatural ....

I'm putting the Summary under the cut because it includes a potential spoiler for Devil's Trap.

Summary: Um, I'm not sure there is any way to summarize this, so I'll line out a couple of assumptives that might not be initially clear instead. I'm assuming the POV will become clear pretty quickly, but the structure pretty much predicates itself on the notion that the last 30 seconds of Devil's Trap won't be the last 30 seconds of Supernatural in the all together, so Sam and Dean ain't gonna frakkin die. The same can't be said, however, about John ...

The Hunt No More

When the dark sings to me
Sweet songs
of days gone
Love lost
Star crossed
I see my sons, they bring to me
Heat dreams
of dark things
My soul is lost
They bear the cost.

Obsession deep
Never sleep
Gone to stray
Never stay
First to leave
Last to grieve
Ever dark
Forever marked

When the dark sings to me
Sweet songs
of days gone
Demons sought
Battles fought
I see my sons, and only see
Death dreams
of fearful things
More to cost
This river crossed.

Obsession burned
A corner turned
In death I see
We bloody three
First to leave
No more to grieve
Gone to dark
Erase the mark

When the dark sings to me
Sweet songs
of days gone
In them I see
Who I would be
I see my sons, as they see me
Coffin dreams
of eternal things
And in their eyes
I see my lies.

Obsession dies
Severs the ties
Sleep at last
My living, past
In this believe
For me, don't grieve
For in the dark
There is no mark

When the dark sings to me
Sweet songs
of days gone
To them, I'm bound
a father found
I see my sons to set them free
Sweet dreams
of forgotten things
Their lives to live
To them I give.
