I think, that on some level, Five might have been grateful that at least he could intervene to save Peri, where he had been unable to do so for Adric. Just my maudlin head!canon XD

I was going to get all serious and maudlin over this topic because I always miss a Doctor once they are gone. I decided to go irreverent instead. With much love, and tongue firmly in cheek,...

The First Doctor was thinking that he had a good run and it was time to get into a younger model.

The Second Doctor was thinking the Time Lords needed to stop minded their own business and get involved more, but not in HIS business.

The Third Doctor was thinking he should have reversed the polarity of the neutron flow.

The Fourth Doctor was thinking he should have worn a parachute instead of his scarf.

The FIfth Doctor was thinking Peri is much heavier than she looks.

The Sixth Doctor was thinking about cats and how much he likes them.

The Seventh Doctor was thinking he should have sent the Master's remains Fed Ex.

I know this was outside the topic, but I couldn't resist:

The Eighth Doctor was thinking please let me keep the hair!

The Fifth Doctor's final words are "Adric", his companion for most of his regeneration- Adric is not his companion for most of his regeneration. He's in 6 serials. 11 if you count 4's time with him. I think that title goes to Teegan, in 18(!?!) serials, 19 if you count 4's time with her ( ... )

ho do you think was on each of the classic doctors' minds (up until the Seventh Doctor) as they lay regenerating?

One: Susan; he would regret not being able to see her again in that body. Probably also experiencing quite a bit of "Please let this work," having never done it before.

Two: Jamie, who wasn't bound for the easiest bit of history, even if he, personally, was all right.

Three: Sarah Jane, as that's who he was with at the time. In fact, IIRC, he went out trying to reassure her about the whole thing.

Four: Honestly, he was probably thinking, "Okay, that settles it; I really, really hate heights."

Six: Himself. No, not because Six is that self-centered, but because that was the incarnation where the Doctor got slammed with evidence of his own dark side. He was probably thinking, "Please don't be evil, please don't throttle anyone, please don't be evil ( ... )

Very good point! It's kind of interesting to do a compare/contrast on how Three was trying to reassure SJS, and Nine was trying to reassure Rose as well. Both were very sweet moments =)
