I also got sick of being told how to watch the show. But when I was watching S1 I didn't ship NINE/Rose. I thought Rose saw Nine as a sort of father replacement so when I realized we were "supposed" to see them romantically I was sort of grossed out. And once Jack was introduced I loved him and Rose together, so I was very disappointed once it became obvious the writer's weren't going to put them together. The two of them had great romantic chemistry - unlike Nine & Rose, (who had excellent platonic vibes) so it was really unfortunate we didn't see more Jack/Rose in S1 ( ... )

If a different character had been responsible, especially if it had been the Doctor (and I can't imagine who else could be responsible)...then I think Rose wouldn't have ended up in the parallel world because Jack would have kept her with him as he would think the Doctor too dangerous. I think if Jack had found out that the Doctor was responsible for his immortality, well, I imagine, his reaction would not be appropriate for a family show. Now, I'll be honest, I love Rose - I think she's one of the most realistic, but appropriately flawed female characters I've seen on a sci fi show. (Also, why I loved Donna and hated the endings Rose & Donna both got.) But, what I found really fascinating was that the characters who seemed to know Rose best - her mother and Mickey - would point out her (realistic) character flaws easier than S3!Ten & Jack - who both seemed to put her on a ( ... )

Also, River was conceived in the Tardis...so somehow she's a Timelord/lady? And Jenny's a generated anomaly but she's able to sort of regenerate...without changing her face...which must be because of the vortex somehow. And Jack is immortal via the vortex. Yet Rose absorbed the whole frikkin vortex...and is a normal human with no side effects?!
