How long has the Doctor actually been at the university? (echoes of Shada anyone?) I think Bill said something like 50 years? But that may have just been an exaggerated guess.
Has he been grounded that entire time? I bet he's been traveling alone.
Who did he make a promise to? (Timelords, UNIT, River Song?) Himself, and more than once in the series ;-) He hates losing his companions and his other companions and friends usually remind him that he's better off with company. Besides, it seems he's had Nardole all that time. Which is a bit of a bummer when he discounts him as companion.
What is in that vault? (Bet we won't find out until the finale) Ha! That's the big question, isn't it?
Nardol's head is on a robot? (was that mentioned at Christmas?)Not that I recall. But then, his head was severed in "Husbands of River Song", wasn't it? And the technology of putting live heads on robot bodies was introduced there as well. So

The promise has to be something about the vault. That's the context, and half the point of the memory wipe was to not leave him wrecked and afraid to make friends.

In "the return of doctor mysterio", there is a brief line when the Doctor says he pried Nardol out of that robot body. I don't recall the exact words but that was the gist. But if you blink, you would miss it.
