I believe she was actually useful in The Sensorites as well, but that serial as a whole was so unremarkable that I can't really remember anything noteworthy from it at all.

It's a pity that she's wasn't as smart as this in previous serials.

Well apparently it's why Carloe Ann Ford left, so yes, it is a real pity.
