The timey timeyness makes my head hurt as well. As soon as I think I've grasped it, at all slips away again.

I did wonder why River is going backwards anyway. Did something happen to her that made her like that? At some point will X happen and then will she start moving forwards again?

Anyway I think this gif best sums her up!

River isn't going backwards at all. River is going forward in her own timeline.

Yeah, I was wondering about the opposite directions thing too. Is it just back luck ? Destiny ?

The vortex manipulator River gets at the end of S5 is probably the same one she uses to time travel in S6. My best guess:

I'm still struggling with River in the beginning of AGMGTW, which is why I just stuck it in. Stormcage River seems so stunned to see Rory that I can only imagine that either it's been a very long time since she's seen Rory in her personal time line (which might mean that it was closer to Silence in the Library than to The Time of Angels) or whatever happens to Rory has recently happened to her, which means this is a younger River than we've ever seen before. I don't think it's the latter, partly because she remembers being at Demon's Run, and Demon's Run River (1) doesn't seem particularly young,(2) doesn't seem surprised to see Amy and Rory, (3) is wearing the same outfit from DotM (but she did pack before leaving for America...), and (4) has a vortex manipulator ( ... )

she knows more than she's letting on, including how she knows, maybe she's the Doctor after all.

Perhaps she killed himself to create herself via wibbly wobbly timey wimey?
