FIC RECS: These recs are about the STORY, pairings just happen DURING the story.
These fics double as both fics that have great stories where pairings exist but aren't the point of the story and fics with supernatural/horror elements. It's a trio of twofers! :D
Now, I would like to nominate chapter seven of The Rampant Disease for Best Use Of Music In A Fic Ever. (Or at least until I find someone else who's done it right.)
It's a House/Wilson House fic, but more importantly it's a zombie fic. House and Wilson are clearly in love, but they really have more important things to do than talk about their feelings. (Though there's still plenty of talking. And by "talking" I mean "witty banter." And by "witty banter" I mean "good witty banter.") Some character death, but honestly, you should go into any zombie story expecting that.

I think I'll nominate this one for Best Use Of "Mating For Life" Cliche In A Fic: Twice Shy, in which Leonard "Bones" McCoy is a werewolf and Jim "Captain Idjit" Kirk cannot seem to buy a clue. There's UST, there's supernatural elements in a futuristic sci-fi setting (a personal fave), and there's Kirk/McCoy. It's not all about McCoy pining over Kirk, there's plot here, too. (In other words, there's a story, and parts of it are about getting two characters together, but mostly it's about having a story to tell.) And Bones is a fucking werewolf! C'mon!

After a long debate with myself I'm going to have to go with Best Use Of Nonchalant Supernaturalism In A Fic for the absolutely ridiculous but believable Hot Fuzz story A London Werewolf in Sandford. You may have guessed the plot already from the title. If not, I assure you it's exactly what it says on the tin. And it is hilarious. Everything from Nicholas's well-intentioned but completely off-base research to everyone else's general attitude of "well of course there's werewolves and magic and things, you daft bastard." There is a "Joint Supernatural Task Force" based out of Cardiff. It's Nicholas/Danny, but the whole thing is really one long, entertaining, "Oh shit, why am I having blackouts? Oh shit, I'm a werewolf. Oh shit...so now what?" freakout. Seriously, if you didn't click it at "Hot Fuzz werewolf fic," I don't know what to tell you.
