Mel considered it a cruel quirk of malfunctioning AI that Zero was capable of realistic sarcasm. If she was tired enough and closed her eyes, the hollow metal undertone of his voice smoothed out into something human and she could almost imagine there was another living person with her. Then she would open her eyes and see his expressionless metal face and glowing yellow eyes and everything would come crashing down on her once again
