As many of you know, we experienced an attempted break-in a couple weeks ago.  Nobody was hurt, nothing was taken, only our bedroom window was damaged.  It's now boarded up and awaiting the installation of burglar bars.  Today I got

Gah! At least your bank and credit card company are watching out for you! It's nice when that happens instead of having to find out the hard way.

Yes, modern fraud monitoring is pretty good (the banks figured out it saves them a lot of money not to have the fraud rather than try to fix it.)

Best to go online and check the statements for both the bank account and the cards (and anything else you can) just to be sure. If there's nothing wrong, you can have the extra rest assured that you're safe, but if anything is amiss, you can contest it as early as possible as well as getting additional evidence for the cops.

Already done - looks like it was a one-shot deal based on somehow getting my ATM card...

All in all, I think I was pretty lucky - the bank did all the legwork for me. And after standing in line behind the folks with the restraining orders and threatening letters, I felt pretty good about my situation overall...

Well, I've had plenty of solo bad experiences, so I think you're probably okay. It's just when you've had two, and then you ask out loud about a third, and your credit card company calls about the time you're actually vocalizing this thought, well...
