[Bryn has been cured for almost a full week now, and while the boat hasn't returned to normal it's calmed enough for Bryn to feel steady on her feet again. With the new engagement ring on her finger and an injured brother to check in on every day, she's distracted enough to not brood as much about the revelations of the Halloween party as much.
That is of course, until she heads into Kuma-ko and sees Jamie sitting there.
Last time she'd tried to ask questions, he'd avoided her answers and wouldn't even look at her. Bryn walks over to his table with a deep breath, intending to try again.]
[It's hard for Bryn to hear Jamie talk about his situation like that, and while there's sympathy for him, it's with mixed feelings and the recent realization that his circumstances had fucked him over, no matter what choice he might have made.]
Wish I could be as convinced as you are that we'll all be fine. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if the rest of us are going to be fucked over with you or not.
[He shakes his head. He wants to tell her that they could all die and they still wouldn't be as fucked up as him. But he can't put any of that into words and instead just drinks more.]
[Bryn's out of questions. She overheard a lot and at this point, and asking Jamie to rehash it all, just to get him to talk to her, seems pointless.]
I should just go. Stop bothering you and leave you to your drink.
[Slowly, she pushes her chair away from the table and stands. There's a moment when she hesitates, torn between walking away and saying more, and finally in a moment of compassion, Bryn steps to Jamie's side of the table and wraps her arms around his shoulders in a hug.]
[Tan's on his way into Kuma-ko in hopes of finding something to eat that tastes right on the first try--if anyone can do it, the bears can, right? He wasn't expecting to see anyone there, but there's Bryn and the doctor. Huh.
He hesitates just long enough to see the hug. Looks like their conversation is over after all.]
[It might be habit for Jamie, but it does hurt just a bit. Bryn swallows and looks up to find Tan standing there.]
Hey Tan...
[Bryn stops by him on her way out to give him a brief hug and a kiss on the cheek, partially because she wants to and partially just because she might get one back from him at least.]
[He's not all that bewildered by Bryn's actions--doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out talking to Jamie's probably upset her. The return hug and kiss are automatic.]
[Uh huh. Tan leans back in his chair, looking far more relaxed than he feels. Like Bryn, his feelings on Jamie are mixed. His feelings on the crew as a whole are mixed.]
Take your drink and I'll deck you after, then.
[If they both agree, he won't get in trouble for it, right?
He waves one of the bears over and gets a beer from it--It tastes like completely the wrong beer than what the label says, but at least it's beer and not gravy or something.]
Well, Jamie, you never said he couldn't hit you, and he did warn you he's gonna do it. That's close enough for consent for him. Tan leans across the table and smacks Jamie, an open-handed strike on the cheek that's intended to sting more than anything else.
