It didn't work out quite that way. They were still breaking speed limits by the time Brittany arrived at the hospital. Thankfully, it was her car that came to a not-complete stop, and she bounced out, armed and pregnant and looking like someone had kicked her cat.

"Greg!" she squealed, and practically launched herself at him. "Oh, baby. Thank God you're all right."

He was attacked by a pregnant wife, and the fact that he hadn't slept, and hadn't eaten, was obvious as he wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her hair. "I'm fine, love. I'm fine."

His mind was elsewhere, however. But that was not here and that was not now.

He pulled back and then kissed her. Hard.

She kissed him back just as roughly, lips sealed to his and her tongue shoved deep into his mouth, as if she was exorcising all the worry she'd had since hearing what was going on. Now she understood how people who thought they were going to die always wanted to get laid.

"Baby." She pulled back and peppered his face with kisses. "Sweetheart. Darling. I love you. I love you, so much."

He panted and wiped his lips with the back of his hand, looking at her. "I love you too. So damn much."

He hadn't nearly died and he wasn't going to get sick, but it was rather disconcerting to watch one of your fellows die under your hands. He looked at Kyle, who was keeping a distance, and then exhaled and ran a hand through his hair.

"The cop died."
