The Terri Schiavo Case

Mar 21, 2005 15:38

I have read and listened with great interest to the Terri Schiavo drama that is being played out. I have read others journals about this, and now feel that I will add my 2 cents worth. I am making this a public post, so hopefully others will comment as well as those on my friends list ( Read more... )

I keep forgetting about my international friends on here. Sorry!

You can read more about it on any of the online news services (MSNBC.COM; CNN.COM etc)

Thanks for your kind words and support.

Hugs!

Well written, Jeff. I would add in addition to this that it is peculiar how Congress feels just fine stomping all over Florida Law as it was originally interpreted. Basically, what they have done in doing this amounts to something very . . . unconstitutional.

I agree with you. I did forget to mention that Florida courts have ruled on the side that Terri had said she did not want to have artificial means to keep her alive.

Totally unconstitutional is what they have done. To me what is also so stupid, is that the U.S. Supreme Court would not hear this case, as it was up to the state to decide.

As a teaser, should I tell you how I came to have a concussion and 12 stitches in my head? Nah, I guess I'll save that for later... just so you know, I am fine and sorta did it to myself, no violence or drama. Just stupidity.

I'm lazy so I'll just C/P what I wrote in another person's journal wakeupkent March 22 2005, 00:56:43 UTC
So she's been in a coma for 15 years, there's no telling when or if she'll ever wake up, but if she does, she'll be brain damaged? If I'm ever in that situation, I hope my family will just pull the plug. I suppose it might be a different matter if I could wake up with no mental damage, but even then... I would have lost 15 years of my life... that alone would make me so bitter... and if that weren't enough, thanks to 15 years of inactivity, you're not just looking at a potentially bad case of bed sores, but think about what your muscles would be like after 15 years of doing. absolutely. nothing. You'd have to relearn to walk, eat, etc. You'd basically have the strength of a new born baby. So 15 years in a coma and then who knows how long being trapped inside your own body. Hours upon hours of therapy. Seriously, no thanks.

As you can tell by my post, I agree with you 100%!

I really hadn't thought about the muscular degeneration that would occur during that time. A very good point!

Although I'm not on your friend's list, I found you through westhill_mom. I had to comment on this because right now I've watched this/followed the happenings extremely closely, and it's close to my heart ... and I partially agree with what you are saying ( ... )

Hey, on the rare occasion that I make a "public" post, it is so I can get different opinions. I appreciate hearing all sides of an issue. Debate and conversation are two of the things that I really enjoy in life.

You are so right when you mentioned that we treat animals better than we do our fellow human beings. It is sad how this has become so public. And I agree totally with you on the politicians getting involved. It is utterly insane!

For a lot about the history of her, the bulimia (sp?) that caused her heart problems, the money awareded, the parents that encouraged the husband to date others and other interesting facts, may I suggest you visit www.andrewsullivan.com
One of my LJ friends cited it in his journal the other day. It is very interesting reading.
