Looks like loads of fun, except...why is there always someone who feels the need to mack on the Doctor? Seemed like that happened to Tennant in every other episode. Hoping he'll just flap his arms and point out he's married, but meh. Surely someone besides Mickey can join Team TARDIS without swapping spit.
Oh, no question. I have no worries about the good Dr. Song's ability to take, like, a Judoon in a fight if the mood strikes her.
And I don't think Eleven's...easily distracted, for lack of a better term, like his predecessors (Jabe, Reinette, Joan Redfern, Liz 1, etc.). Not that he's not excited by new people, but with River in the picture, it's never romantic (Rita, Madge, even Amy despite her best effort early on). I assume they'll keep that going, since she's supposedly reappearing later in the season, and anything else wouldn't be very in-character anyway.
Which I like, because episodes like "The Girl in the Fireplace" never rang true for me--what, he's willing to sacrifice himself for Rose and then a few episodes later is willing to abandon her? I don't know why that episode is such a fan favorite...
I would also like to think that he'd be faithful to her no matter what. I'm hoping there is a good reason for the kiss, because I really want to like Clara/Oswin but my allegiance will always be to River. Maybe they're undercover and had to prove a 'relationship'? Yeah, I'm reaching here.
I always saw it as a bit of a pushback on his part since Mickey joined the gang. She never really broke up with Mickey even when proclaiming that she was going to stay with the Doctor forever. I saw "The Girl in the Fireplace" as his attempt to move on since it seemed that Rose was really not that dedicated to him. Since I never really liked Rose I was fine with it but it was not really a favorite of mine.
*snerk* Doctor, I love you, but you are delusional. Hand-grabbing is not always your job. Don't make me go hunting for gifs of the times that Amy had to pull you out of the way because your entire brain had shut down because dinosaurs, or some other form of deadly danger that you thought was cool.
Actually, Clara seems to have a pretty good grasp on the essentials: get the idiot genius away from the deadly attacking thing, because there's every likelihood he's too fascinated to notice that it's trying to kill him.
" get the idiot genius away from the deadly attacking thing,"
This pretty much sums up the role of Companion. LOL!
And, yeah, I'm tired to death of every Companion being sexually attracted to the Doctor, and if not, there has to be some huge explanation for it, and no one believes it anyway. (eyeroll)
To me, that sells the women in the series short, as if all they think about in life is finding a cute guy. It's almost insulting. And it's entirely possible to think someone is wonderful, and love them to little bits, without having any desire to kiss them.
I just find it a bit demeaning, them turning the Doctor's Companions into "girlfriends" they used to be so much more than that, and still can be, if the producers would just get it through their heads that women can be useful for more than just titillation.
One thing I'm hoping is that Clara will actually be more useful than Amy was. I'd like to see more of the Doctor and Companion working together to do things, rather than just the Companion standing off to the side being the

One thing I'm hoping is that Clara will actually be more useful than Amy was.
Amy was generally extremely useful when it came to catching things the Doctor missed, usually key emotional bits, as in "The Beast Below" or "Victory of the Daleks"-ironic, since she was nearly as bad with her own emotions as he is. By the end of her run, she seemed entirely capable of adventuring solo; she kind of ended up in the Doctor's role in "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship," for instance. That being said, I would agree that it would be cool to have a companion with a specific skill set that the Doctor frequently needs (like Jo's escapology or Ace's explosives).
I strongly suspect that the Clara kiss is just an excess of exuberance from having defeated the bad guy. I don't think it'll be an ongoing thing.

Granted, if he doesn't point it out I'm sure River is more than capable of taking her in a fight.
