Eight doesn't get enough love. Sweet gallifrey that's a dashing cover. *swoons* Poor Rory baby. He's still a tag-along to Amy as far as the show runner's concerned. Which is NOT FAIR.
Oooh, I want to listen to that! I've never really seen any Eight adventures, or read/listened to them, but - and this is gonna sound shallow - I have to listen to this cause Ruth Bradley ♥ And she's a companion! I've wanted her to be one for ages now, and although it's not the kind I wanted, it's still really neat ^^ (still, fingers crossed that one day she'll be on the show aswell :D) (and this is making me wish that tv would show DW from the start again - it's been a while since they did last, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time now :P)
I'd definitely listen to all of Eight's stuff leading up to the Ruth Bradley series. His state of mind will make not a lot of sense or emotionally impact unless you do. Cause so much crap went down and it's also a part of the reason he's changed his outer appearance as well.
I also would have loved Arthur being on the cover and I still get annoyed that Rory isn't always treated like he's a proper companion, I think because he's a boy and the Doctor's never had a male companion before, has he?
I'm gonna have to get this.
I love Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and I've got to start listening to some of his Doctor's stuff.
Agreed on the lax treatment of Rory. He's one of my all-time favorite companions (and neck-and-neck with Donna for my favorite modern companion).
But he's far from the only male companion. One of the very first companions of the First Doctor was Ian Chesterton. Classic Who also had Ben Jackson, Steven Taylor, Jamie McCrimmon (the longest-serving companion in terms of episodes appeared in), the Brigadier, Adric, Turlough...those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I've probably missed some.
And of course, while Rory is the first full-time male companion of modern Who, Mickey Smith and Captain Jack both did some TARDIS time in the RTD era.
Okay, I'll step down from my virtual lectern now. Time to go download some Eighth Doctor Big Finish stories...
Of course! I was only pulling from the TV show, but yes, the pool is definitely expanded in the novels, audios, what-have-you. (And I really should have thought of the Eighth Doctor's companions seeing as this whole thread is a response to a picture of McGann:-)

Kinda wanted an Arthur cover - but this is a gorgeous cover all the same.
