Great interview. Moff is generally pretty insightful about not only the creative process but the nitty-gritty of producing TV. It's always a reality check to read one of his interviews.

I remember Jekyll. I loved that show. Better than Sherlock, IMO.

Have they ever listed a specific reason why New Who changes companions so much? I haven't watch ed much Old Who, but my impression is that companions stuck around for longer back then.

I kind of find his comment about those who avoid spoilers having a better experience annoying. Who is he to say that? Personally, I love spoilers and it is has never ruined my experience. I'm in it for the journey, not for the who, what, when, where, and why. Watching it unfold is just as enjoyable whether I'm spoiled or not for me, and I would know as I've experienced both. I mean, I can get him not wanting to spoil, of course, but just the way he worded that doesn't sit right with me.

I think people get that impression quite a bit, but I bet if you did the math, the new series companions would turn out to have been around longer. Simply because while the seasons had more episodes, at least four or more dealt with the same storyline. Like, say, Four's "Robot" was four twenty minute episodes, all dealing with the same plotline.

If you go by series, not really. Some companions stuck around a long time (Jamie and Sarah Jane for example) but most only lasted two series, episodes were only 25 minutes and were generally 4 parts.

While I'd like that, Karen was pretty insistent that she wanted an exit that meant she couldn't return. That strikes me as a bit silly really - there's always a way for someone to come back if you're determined. Maybe she'll change her mind at some point.

Sherlock almost exists on starving its audience. By the time it came back this year, Sherlock was like a rock star re-entering the building!

Oh God, he's such a troll, he knows us so well. Ugh, I hate him and yet I love him.

Thanks for posting this, Moff's interviews are always interesting.
