I would be very excited if my bloody cable company actually carried BBC A instead of just running ads for it and NOT carrying it. *curses Cablevision to the depths of Hell. Again.* But I am excited for anyone who can see it nonetheless. :)

Oh that sucks. They're such a tease! We actually decided to pay extra and get the extended digital cable package JUST for BBCA. The fact that it had cool educational channels for the kids was just cake.

Cablevision is bizarre in that it takes them years to pick up certain channels that other systems around the country get right away. It was close to a decade before we got TCM or TV Land and far too long for Comedy Central, SciFi or Cartoon Network. And we're in one of the top media markets in the entire country (NYC suburbs including New Jersey and Connecticut).

They were the first system in the country to get BBC Worldwide News, but BBC America? Can't be arsed and if you call and complain, they'll actually insist we have it because apparently worldwide news = entertainment.

It's not even a case of having to pay extra -- we have the top tier already (with about 800 channels), but they refuse to pick up BBC A for reasons no one can fathom. Meanwhile, they do run ads for programming on the channel. No, this makes NO sense!

BBCA basically runs Who marathons for the same reason that they used to show a million episodes of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and now are constantly showing The X-Files and Star Trek-- they've got fuck-all else to show.
I'm pretty sure that Doctor Who is their highest rated show, which is probably a godsend because if they've had programming and ratings issues in the recent past. Since they already have the rights to it, they give us marathons and then that takes a couple days of programming off of their minds.

So my tl;dr slightly bitter answer to your rhetorical question-- BBCA is a desperate corporation and Doctor Who does, in fact, sell in America. So that means we get Who marathons!

I WANT WHO MARATHONS ON MY TV.

Oh wait, I have the series 5 box set. BUT NOT ALL THE OTHER COOL STUFF.

Slightly OT; I just turned over my TV to hear Tim McInnerny say 'the horse lobby are a bunch of fucking tossers'. ♥

NGL, I really really hate Doctor Who being cut for commercials, because it's not made for that and it fucks up the flow of the episode, but I still watch all the marathons because I love BBCA's stupid little promos and special programs. I think they do that to make up for not being able to give us Confidential.

wtf. Horse lobby? To be fair, almost all lobbies are a bunch of fucking tossers. XD

I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS!

We're having friends over that evening to play games and hang out and then watch the premiere with us, and now I find that there's be an extra hour of this rewind countdown stuff before it?! People are just going to have to deal with it being on the huge TV in the room cause I'm not missing it! If I'm lucky they'll all geek out with me. It'll just be a Doctor Who party!
