Hello there fellow Elevenites. *waves* S5 was so full of meta that I'm still trying to process it all, but for now I've got a Doctor/River essay to share with you.
SPOILERS: All of S5 + Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead.
(Oh, and if you like, you’re very welcome to see this as a ‘ship manifesto. *g*)
(
Sh! Spoilers. )

*grins evilly* It's been going in circles in my head for... weeks. Months even.

Looking forward to it!

and i feel like the doctor had a similar reaction, because in TTOA, she was smug, and he was on alert, trying to put distance between them. he and i shared the same feelings: this woman is trouble, and i REALLY don't want to get into whatever epic, emotional adventure we're about to begin. i don't even KNOW her! and she acts as if she already knows so much, and treats him like a child that needs placating. but he was intrigued by her, and so was i, even though i resented her.
I think the show has been very clever in making us follow the Doctor's POV in all this. lizzledpink makes a lot of excellent points in this comment, pointing out all the ways in which the Doctor begins to re-evaluate River during the Angel eps.
in the season 5 finale, we saw river strong, capable, and a little bit terrifying. i admit to being impressed, but ( ... )

Thank you!
My goodness, you've summed up all of those casual-twinges of 'Could-be-and-should-be' that happened every time the Doctor and River interacted with each other.
Heh. It's what I do... (My Buffyverse meta could probably reach halfway to the moon. I am THRILLED BEYOND WORDS that the Whoniverse finally has the same amount of layers to it.)
You have solidified my fan-girling for Ms./Mrs. River Song. ;)
In which case, my work here is done! ;)

By the way, have you heard the very exciting spoilery rumour about DW Season 7? (Not Season 6, but Season 7!)

That's what I'm thinking. (I lent my S1-4 DVDs to a friend, and am now waiting impatiently to get them back... *g*)

Hee. It's an LJ friend, actually, who has become intrigued by the Who-centric squee that keeps flooding her flist. :)

I'll just say that I've watched again a couple of times the Library episodes after watching S5, and it's so annoying. Because you stand there, KNOWING, and seeing the Doctor doing nothing, acting like a fool. And you're just thinking "FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, DOCTOR! IT'S RIVER SONG! This is the last time you are going to see her, act like a proper version of you!" So infuriating.
Anyway... I'll come back! ♥

*nods* I think he probably spends a LOT of time being nice, just to make up for having been/going to be such an idiot when he was young. (I've currently got two (LJ) friends watching S5, and I very much look forward to their reactions when watching the Library episodes...
Anyway... I'll come back! ♥
Looking forward to it!
