This port appears almost normal. The world is modern, the setting is seasonal but not unusual. I'm gathering from the almost contented silence that we've yet to have a murder, supernatural happenings or a plague of zombies. How unlike the Admiral. Out of all the worlds that the barge has visited in my time, it's the only one that appears almost ( Read more... )

boo pookie, riddler, port, do not want barge, being obvious is lame, properly paranoid, why so cynical?, rose, the admiral sucks, hayley

Careful what you say, wouldn't want to sound like you're missing the more... interesting sort of port now, would you?

In terms of what you consider interesting, or what I consider interesting?

I'm sure we can find some common ground if we try.

In that case, you first. What interests you in port?

That sounds like a challenge to me, cowboy. Not sure where I can find zombies this time of night though.

[Cowboy. Crane would mention that, but he's busy not provoking the crazy person.] That don't generally spend a great deal of time on the barge itself. It's more of a highlight reserved for ports.

Y'all usually get zombies at ports? Ah shiiit, I missed out. Fuckin' hell.

You want to go to a port full of zombies? That seems to be indicative of either a death wish or some issues with aggression.

Of course. This place, though...it is a mockery.

Since you are stuck on the ship, would you like me to bring you anything?

I'm gathering that Halloween is far from what you would consider a proper festival?

Unless you can find some sort of chemistry equipment, I suspect not. Be careful while you're out there though. I don't doubt that there's some twist that the Admiral hasn't shown us yet.

Halloween isn't really a holiday anymore, it seems. It looks more like an excuse for people to buy costumes and look like fools.

And these women who call themselves witches and think they know the rituals of my people...it's disturbing.

But I know. I will be careful, I promise.

And engage in improper nutrition, it seems.

Surely they aren't the same rituals? It's probably just a pale initiation of your people. [Crane refrained from saying 'apparent society wide cult.']

Please do. There can be a significant threat even from ordinary human beings.

You tryin' to get him to change his mind?

Shame you can't come, Halloween's a party in any decade.

He seems to have disappeared. [Behold, how much Crane cares about his warden.]

Let me guess. Halloween is the type of thing that you particularly enjoy?

I meant the Admiral. I'm likin' my vacation without things jumping out around corners.

It's as much a night for mischief and the supernatural as whatever folks wear to show off these days. Seein' as you like what makes people scared, I'd have figured it's as much your thing.

Yet. Things jumping around corners yet. [Although Crane kind of gets that the only flood he isn't participating in is the only peaceful flood.]

[Facilier is right on the money. Crane's ultimate fear toxin plot would be making a serious business version of Halloween.] Absolutely not. I have no interest in that type of puerile activity.
