I would like to say that the infirmary's rather admirable failure to engage with my social experiment was a result of good medical practice, but it seems far more likely that it was the result of rampant incompetence and a refusal to acknowledge inmate problems. Which makes me think of other issues I've long considered that the infirmary must have ( Read more... )

being a hypocrite, properly paranoid, stop having fun guys, trolling under my troll bridge, crane is a dick, infirmary, let's be a mob, flipping tables, does actually have medical skills, need meds, psa, wild mass accusation

I would suggest that he may have been allergic to it, but I would think you'd find out about that before using it as an example.

In any case, there's a reason why I refuse to be treated by anyone but the Doctor and Omega, if I am unable to do it myself in the first place.

It's possible, but I wasn't about to ask. Since it really was none of my business.

I can understand your logic, to be entirely honest. How am I supposed to know they're not going to recommend someone who has a qualification that's hundreds of years old? Or believes that pain is legitimately character building?

And considering that I'm not a human, I would have to worry about being given drugs unsuited for me, or even dangerous. A Time Lord may resist a lot, but an unlucky combination of the wrong chemicals can still be poisonous. I certainly wouldn't trust just anyone with my health.

That's true. Did they ever do testing on you to see what you're compatible with? Or ask for your input?

As a doctor here, I would like to address these issues and find a resolution for them. At present, as I haven't discussed these matters with others, I can only represent my own thoughts and position on this ( ... )

It is the best hat. Crane does not like it. :c doctor_j_crane September 14 2011, 14:15:31 UTC
Until 1939? Good lord. There's no way that you're qualified to treat anyone<. Not without some kind of course at the very least. And catching up on the job is hardly acceptable. This is why skill testing is needed.

Your stance about inmates is admirable, I suppose. If you intend to carry it out. Which I doubt that you do. You'll start picking favorites, just like the others. If the medication request had been made by anyone else I'm sure it would have been taken seriously.

I am a competent surgeon and competent diagnostician, if nothing else. I have permitted several doctors to supervise any matters which are new to me, and refuse to get involved in those which I cannot, in good conscience, act upon. Which is why I did not respond to your request to medicines far beyond my knowledge. If there is anything further I can do to assure you of my competence, I will endeavour to do so.

I do not pick favourites. I treat everyone I am capable of treating. Which, I am aware, comes with limitations.

I also think any doctor taking it seriously would have denied your request without further diagnosis from someone qualified.

And how often are those skills actually needed? Although to give credit where it's due, removing yourself from the situation regarding medication is a good move. Not as much as removing yourself from the infirmary entirely, but that's wishful thinking on my part.

Oh, please. Of course you do. If your friend and your enemy had been shot in the same place, who would you treat first?

There is no one qualified. I am the most qualified person in this area.

Are these legitimate concerns or are you simply bored?

[Why yes, he IS going somewhere with this.]

A healthy combination of both, I have to admit.

At least you're honest.

What sort of doctor are you?

Psycho-pharmacologist, technically. It's a rather specialized profession.

Oh, I never could have guessed the utterly imbecilic response to your completely frivolous demand for unnecessary medication would have led to this.

"Utterly imbecilic"? What do you mean by that?

stopthat_destro September 14 2011, 14:31:18 UTC
Don't play stupid. If you know a single thing about the drugs you claim to be an expert in, then you know full well what I'm talking about.

And that makes the infirmary's lack of response my fault, does it?

Why should I? How am I supposed to know that it isn't you that's lying?
