Graduation seems to be a relative thing. I fail to understand how the Admiral prevents the somewhat inevitable relapse that would occur when an inmate returned to their place of origin. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I would continue doing exactly what I'd been doing before. I wouldn't even really term it a 'relapse', since it's only a ( Read more... )

fear is a legit science, flood, science bb, barge is dumb, do not want barge, why so cynical?, honesty ew, the admiral sucks, crane has issues, good and bad in the same post, being sincere is lame

The point, I'm guessing, is to get your inmate to the place where they won't relapse.

The very nature of relapse means that you can't ensure that it won't happen.

If someone's serious about reforming, they won't relapse.

You've never worked with anyone suffering from any sort of drug addiction, have you? It's a prime example how someone can still have the best of intentions and still fail at their goal.

I don't know if, in the same circumstances, I would again do the things for which I was an inmate.

I know that, in the future, I will not. Relapse is a genuine concern, however, for all of the graduated inmates.

...

It seems to me that your warden is as effectual as an ice cream sundae.

At the very least you're more honest than the others. And not deluded enough to think that relapse doesn't effect you. If anything, the fact that they don't acknowledge the potential for it to happen makes it more likely to effect them. [Says Crane's pseudo shrink-ness.]

My warden is effectual. You're in no position to judge what he does. You don't know anything about him.

If you're able to say, unequivocally, that you would return and do exactly what you did before, you are gaining nothing from being here.

Which is the inherent problem with the barge. I'm fairly obviously not getting anywhere, yet there's no alternative method of leaving.

You can't care about everyone, Claire. It's not possible.
