Trouble in Paradise (Juntoshi)

Something quick and dirty while I work on things for the auction winners.

Pairing: Juntoshi (established)
Universe: Collar
Concept: Ohno and Jun have a fight
I blame boblemon for this one, and my general frustration at life, the universe, and everything
Thanks to  for satsumatsufor looking over this!

Sometimes it pissed Ohno off that Jun seemed to know him better than he knew himself. Knew all of them, really, better than they did. But Jun had perfected the art of reading Ohno, and knowing Ohno, and every once in a while it just irked Ohno. Especially when he was certain that Jun was off the mark. Very off the mark. Drama filming time was always stressful for the group (and Ohno, since he liked schedules and routines, and assigned seating arrangements) and drama filming meant that he would not be seeing Jun as often--and he was not. Which was not the end of the world, just irksome. It was perfectly reasonable and understandable to want to see ones boyfriend. So when Jun had to dash off somewhere for filming, or the filming ran late, or one of them was sent off somewhere for the 24HR Television filming, Ohno complied, as expected. But if he snuggled on the couch a little closer to Nino, letting out a sigh that was inaudible to anyone but Nino, he really was not to be blamed.

“It will be over soon, just a few more weeks, right?” Nino mumbled into Ohno’s shoulder, and Ohno just sighed, frowning.

He needed something to distract him from this boredom and grumpiness.

Come to think of it, he had a few days off soon, and he still had the fishing trip from Jun lined up and waiting for him. Plus, his mom had said something about a family trip to the coast, for some fish festival, and Ohno was all about fish, fishing, eating and food.

“Maybe I will go fishing.” Ohno mused, coughing slightly. He was so entranced in his thoughts that he did not notice the look that Nino had given him as he shifted, studying him as he coughed lightly again. Fishing would certainly take his mind off of things.

And so, Ohno set up his vacation, and his fishing trip, triple checking with management that he did indeed have the days off. He mentioned to Jun, in passing, that he was going to finally take that vacation that Jun had planned, and Jun had smiled at him, happily.  His happiness faded, however, when Ohno coughed again slightly and cleared his throat.

“The heater probably shouldn’t be on so high in here, its drying my throat out,” Ohno mumbled, shuffling to the heater to adjust the temperature and Jun stared after him, eyes narrowed. Jun moved around the room, packing his bag for filming, a late filming that night, and he waited until Ohno was settled back on the couch before he spoke.

“While I am happy that you are taking a vacation, maybe it should wait?”

“Why?” Ohno asked, his eyes narrowing, his chin jutting out slightly. “I want this, and a moment ago you were happy for me.”

“You are getting sick-“

“I am not.” Ohno interrupted. This was not what he needed or wanted to hear. When he had talked to his mother earlier, she had fussed over him, mentioning the same thing, and it had turned into a lecture on how he needed to make sure that he was eating and sleeping well, and that she knew that Matsumoto-kun was busy with his drama, so if Ohno needed to come home for food he was always welcome. While she meant well, it was frustrating him. He was over thirty years old now, he did not need his mother telling him how to live his life.

“Satoshi-“

“I think I know myself by this point, and I think I would know if I am getting sick or not.” Ohno snapped, not waiting to hear Jun’s reply. His arms were crossed over his chest. He was not going to budge.

“You have been coughing more, and I worry.” Jun’s voice was soft. He would not look at Ohno, checking the contents of his bag, and Ohno knew Jun well enough that it meant that Jun was trying to control his temper.

“I am fine, Jun.” Ohno replied, and the other nodded.

“If you decide that you aren’t, you know where the tea is and-“

“I am an adult, Jun. I don’t need you nagging me as well. I don’t need to be dating a second mother figure.” Ohno spoke, taking his frustration out on Jun.

From the way that Jun stiffened, though, his eyes widening slightly before glancing down at his phone, Ohno wondered if perhaps he had gone slightly too far.

“I have filming until late. Don’t wait up.” Jun pushed his phone into his pocket, and grabbed his keys, pausing at the door. “It is normal to worry about those you love, Satoshi.” Jun’s voice was soft and he was out the door before Ohno could reply.

He kind of felt like an asshole.

And he did wait up, even though Jun told him not to, since he wanted to tell Jun that he was sorry for earlier.

Except that Jun did not come home that night. Which made Ohno grumpier than he had been. ‘Don’t wait up’ never meant ‘I am not coming home’. So what the hell had happened, and where was his boyfriend?

His mood did not improve when he found out that Jun was also not at the agency in the morning with the rest of them. It was unusual, as they were supposed to be rehearsing the choreo for Wild at Heart.

One of their managers, Jun’s, Ohno thought idly, not glancing up for long from the sketch he was working on, stepped into the room and cleared his throat.

“We are going to have to reschedule the practices with all of you. Matsumoto-san got called back to the drama filming location. It appears that there were some technical difficulties and they are going to have to re-shoot things. Given that they had to pull him away from an interview, which also has to be rescheduled, we will have to push this back a few days.” He paused.

“With the way your schedules line up, you will have a few days before the performance to get this right, but I am sure that you can do it.”

“Why not just do things tomorrow or the day after? I am sure that we have some blocks of time in there.”

Jun’s manager shook his head.

“There are several things that cannot be rescheduled during those days, I am sorry for the trouble, and Matsumoto-san sends along his regrets as well. He said that he will see you all for the Shiyagare filming this evening.” Jun’s manager bowed, and disappeared from the room, and the others looked at each other.

“That was odd,” Sho commented, and Aiba nodded.

“Why didn’t Jun message us himself?” Aiba added, glancing to Ohno.

Ohno ignored it, sketching.

Aiba had a point though. Why hadn’t Jun called or messaged? It was bothersome.

As his pencil stroked became sharped, Ohno realized that he was irritated, again, at the entire situation.

He wanted to see Jun, but come to think of it, Jun had not replied to any of his messages, not last night or the night before. And it was unlike Jun to not answer his mails. Usually, he answered them almost instantly.

What the hell. This was irritating, more than the times Jun would occupy his seat, or rub his chopsticks in that way before eating that drove Ohno up a wall. Jun was most certainly over reacting about their fight.

“Hey, Riida, when are you leaving on your trip?” He was drawn out of his brooding by Nino’s question, and Ohno glanced up for a moment.

What appointments could not be rescheduled? Ohno was used to rescheduling his vacations, but glad that he would not have to. From the looks that the others were exchanging, no one was quite sure what that thing was.

Irritating.

“I leave right after filming, get back in two days. Fishing tomorrow, and then the fish festival with my family.” Ohno spoke, clearing his throat, and reaching for his glass of tea. His throat had been really dry recently, and he had been very thirsty. It was odd.

“Are you sure-“ Nino stopped as some of the staff came into the room, pulling the rest of Arashi away to start running them through the choreo, since they were there and had time. When Aiba asked what about MatsuJun, the reply was that it would be taken care of, and someone would be sent to run him through the choreo on his breaks. ‘It was Matsumoto-san’s suggestion, so he would not get too far behind, or hold everyone back,’  the staff member added and Sho nodded, smiling.

“That sounds like our MatsuJun.” Sho’s voice held a fondness that irked Ohno. His Jun, not our Jun. But at the moment, his Jun was no where to be found.

Very irritating. In all of their years together, when he and Jun did have fights, Jun had never resorted to the silent treatment. It was unlike him.

~~~~
Jun arrived later, just before their filming for Shiyagare, and there was such a rush to get him ready for the show that Ohno did not have a chance to talk to him. None of them did, really. Though Ohno did see Jun smiling hesitantly at him from across the room, and Ohno, still grumpy, could only frown in response, inclining his head slightly at Jun. He could see the other deflate. During filming Jun fumbled a few times, but it was improvisation and Jun was always weak at it. Ohno did not talk a lot, which was also not unusual, so the show did not go too badly. Ohno did notice, as he coughed lightly after filming, that Jun was staring at him, and had been every time he cleared his throat. During any breaks that they had during the filming, Ohno kept mostly to himself, his band mates knew well enough when to leave him alone, and Ohno could see that Nino was talking with Jun, and then with Sho and Aiba in hushed tones.
Ohno just watched, trying to figure out what was wrong with Jun, without actually talking to him. He did not look more tired that usual--though with all the make up it was be hard to tell--and Jun was not asking for any more coffee than he usually did. He did spend more time than usual talking to his manager, and he was not pleased during those bits of conversation, but Ohno was always too far away to overhear what they were talking about.
It was after the filming when they slowly headed back to the green room, since there was still food left from the omiyage, that Ohno noticed that Jun was packing his bag up, again.
Ohno did not have to say anything to convey his displeasure at the situation, Jun glanced up as the rest of the band came into the room and sighed.
“This should be the last night of late night filming.” Jun offered and Ohno made a grumpy noise in his throat, followed by a small coughing fit and Jun, shouldering his bad, took a step towards Ohno.
“Are you sure that you are feeling well enough to-“
“I told you last night Jun, I don’t want or need someone fussing over me.” Ohno knew that he was being petulant, and that he should apologize to Jun. He had meant to, when he saw him that morning, except that never happened, and the longer the day had gone on, the grumpier Ohno had gotten, especially with the way  Jun was ignoring his phone.
“I just don’t want you to get sick.”
“I already told you I didn’t want to date my mother, or anyone like that, stop fussing over me.” Ohno snapped. He could hear the intake of breath from the others, but his eyes were on Jun, who took a deep breath. Usually, Jun would snap back, they would get it out of their systems, and everything would be fine. But Jun took a second deep breath, and then his body deflated.
“The car is waiting.” Jun paused, and sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Have fun on your trip, and with your family. I will see you later.” That was all that he said, and walked out of the room and Nino followed, glaring at Ohno in the process.
It was Sho who rounded on Ohno and asked what they were all thinking.
“What was that about, Satoshi-kun?” Sho’s voice was gentle, and Ohno did to respond immediately.
“Someone must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed.” Was all he responded, and Aiba shook his head.
“Not MatsuJun, he hasn’t had any sleep since the night before last. Considering how he can get when he is running on nothing but sugar and caffeine, I am surprised that he did not explode.” Aiba paused, looking at Ohno “You were kind of pushing his buttons there, Riida.”
“Jun hasn’t slept?” Was all Ohno could manage to get out, and Sho shook his head.
“He had filming last night that ran late, later than expected, and then with his schedule and the fact that they called him back this morning he has not have a chance to sleep yet. He also has a full night of filming tonight, and then the 24hour television location shoot, so I would be surprised if he gets any sleep at all until very late tonight, if not tomorrow.”
Ohno frowned, he had forgotten about the location shoot for the 24hour television. Which also meant that Jun had a family wedding to go to. Ohno could recall, when Jun had gotten the schedule, that he had asked his manager if he could rearrange the schedule slightly, as he was in the wedding party, and needed to be at the wedding that weekend. And since Ohno was leaving that night, in a few hours actually for his trip, he wouldn’t see Jun for close to a week.
And, to make matters worse, he still did not know why Jun was not answering his phone.
~~~~~~

“You alright?” Nino waited until they were far enough from the room not to be overheard, and Jun shook his head, but did not speak. He was most certainly not alright. Ohno’s words hurt.

He knew that he was reading too much into things, as Ohno was always very grumpy when he was sick, very very grumpy. And he was certain that Ohno did not mean that he did not want Jun to worry about him, or imply that since Jun did worry about him, that he did not want to be with Jun. If Jun were any less exhausted he would know this.

“He is worried, since you didn’t call all day, or reply to any of our messages.” Nino added. Jun sighed as they reached the area where he would be picked up by the car and taken to the drama shooting.

“Eita-san broke my phone, and I haven’t had one since last night.”

“That would explain it.” Nino mused and Jun nodded.

“I figured that they would tell you guys that I didn’t have a phone, but I guess I was wrong.” Jun glanced to Nino. “When Satoshi gets sick, and he is, can you give him the care package?” Jun asked. Nino looked to Jun, frowning.

“I don’t have it.” He spoke, recalling the last time that one of them was sick, and the teas and vitamins and other remedies and wellness things that Jun gave them. It was never pleasant, but it almost always helped them to feel better.

“You do, I put it in your bag already.”

Nino laughed, and Jun smiled, the first smile that Nino had seen that day if he could recall correctly.

“Will you be alright?” Nino asked, sneaking an arm around Jun’s waist and pulling him close, smiling as the other rested his head on Nino’s for a moment.

“I will be better when I know he did not mean to imply that we should not be together. He is just so grumpy when he is sick, and I have never once asked him to not go fishing.”

“He loves you Jun, you know that.” Nino’s words were soft, and Jun hmmed in agreement but Nino tightened his arms around Jun regardless, not letting go until the car pulled up.

“I will take care of him while you are gone, Jun. And talk some sense into him.” Nino’s voice was stern and Jun laughed, smiling weakly at Nino.

“I leave him in your care then.” Jun bowed to Nino before he got in the car, and Nino stood for a moment, watching the car walk away before he went back inside.

~~~~~
Aiba, Sho and Ohno had managed to pack up, only waiting for Nino so they could go to the cars that would take them home when Jun’s manager rushed into the room. He was holding a phone in his hand, looking frazzled, and they could see his frustration when he did not find Jun there.
“Is something wrong?” Sho asked, and the man sighed.
“I was hoping to catch Matsumoto-kun before he left. One of his co workers on the drama bumped into him and his phone broke, and it took us most of the day to go through the company to get him a new phone, since these things take time. I wanted to catch him before he left for filming.”
“His phone has been broken?” Ohno asked, and Jun’s manager nodded.
“He was replying to a message to me late last night about his schedule when someone bumped into him and it fell. He had to call me from Eita-san’s phone to let me know. We have a new phone for him, but it won’t be activated until sometime tomorrow.”
“Broken?” Ohno repeated and Jun’s manager nodded, moving aside as Nino came back into the room.
“Ah, J was wondering when he would get the phone. The car just left with him for the drama filming.” Nino paused. “I can take it to him, if you like, since it’s late and you need to get home to your family.” Nino rubbed his hair sheepishly. “Though I am not sure where he is filming.”
Jun’s manager shook his head. “I will bring it when I pick him up tomorrow. I am going with him for the location shoot,  and since he is filming he won’t need it right now, especially since it is not active yet. Matsumoto-kun and I already talked about that earlier.”
Nino nodded, shrugging. “Just thought I would offer.” He waited until Jun’s manager left before rounding on Ohno.
“You owe J a serious apology, he was just worried about you, as we all are, and that was uncalled for.”
Ohno nodded, coughing again, and Nino sighed. “Go, you need to go pack for your trip. And make sure you have fun. Jun wanted me to pass that along as well, though we all think it.” Nino ruffled though his bag, smiling when he indeed found the care package there, and zipped it closed, shouldering it and pulling Ohno close. The next words that he spoke were a whisper, meant just for Ohno, and despite the horror that flickered across his face, Sho and Aiba were polite enough not to ask what Nino had told Ohno.
Ohno, however, was shocked, and Nino had to pull him along to the car while Ohno processed what he had just learned.
Jun thought that Ohno did not want to be with him any longer.
This made Ohno a bigger jerk than he had known that he had been. And Nino was right, he owed Jun a huge apology.
Once they were on the car, Nino was invading Ohno’s personal space, as always. Ohno found he was glad for the physical presence, as he needed something to stabilize him while he processed this.
Ohno knew that sometimes Jun was insecure about them, since he thought that Ohno deserved better, and for so long Jun had harbored feelings for Sho. Ohno had been patient. And though it had been frustrating, Jun was worth it. One cannot help who they love, but it had made Ohno very happy when Jun had realized that he loved Ohno. And despite how hard it had been when Sho decided to confess to Jun, he had been glad that Jun was finally able to move on, to give all of his heart to Ohno. But to think that his words could have made Jun think that he did not want to be with him any longer... Ohno had really messed up.
“It will be fine, Oh-chan. And J will be upset if you don’t have fun on your vacation. So have fun, and try not to worry about it. I am sure that he will be in touch as soon as he is able.”
Ohno nodded. Nino was right, Jun would be unhappy with him if he did not have fun on his vacation, and the last thing he wanted to do was upset Jun further.
~~~~~

And as much as he hated to admit it, Jun had been right. Ohno was on the boat for mere three hours before the wet chilly air started bothering his lungs. By the end of the trip he was coughing, seriously coughing. He was sick, his throat raw, hurting when he swallowed, and his lungs were sore from all the coughing. He was feeling so miserable that when he finally caught the bonito that he had been hoping to catch, and posed with it, it was not thrilling, it was more of a relief, since he could sit inside afterwards, in the cabin where it was warm, and dry. Ohno pulled his phone from his pocket to send a message to Jun, he paused, frowning.

Was Jun’s number still the same, would Jun be able to see the message if he sent it?

This seriously was awful. But it would get better, Ohno was certain of it.

As soon as he was back on land, and the fish safely stored in the apartment, Ohno made a few phone calls, to Nino, telling him that he and Jun were correct and that he was sick. Ohno was surprised (though, really, he should not have been) and moved to know that Jun had left the infamous care package in Nino’s care, and that Nino would be over when he had a break from work with the it--but he was certain that Jun had enough healthy teas and things around the house to tide Ohno over.

Then he sent a message to his mother (who immediately forbid him from coming to the festival, and he agreed, listening patiently to the scolding that she gave him), and finally to Jun’s manager.

It was later that day that Ohno found out that Jun’s phone was indeed working, when he received a picture mail of Jun holding a bouquet of violets and irises, in deep purples, with one single red rose. Jun was smiling, widely, and Ohno could see that Jun was wearing several of the rings that Ohno had given him over the years on his hands, enough that Ohno knew that Nino was right and that Jun was worried about Ohno’s comment. With the picture was a brief message

Miss you, will call when I can.

It was not much, but it was enough to set Ohno at ease. He had a few more things planned for Jun for while he was gone, though Ohno knew better than to think that showering Jun with gifts would make things better, or fix the hurt that his grumpy mood had brought about.  Still, it was nice to spoil Jun and to remind him that he was loved. Hopefully it would set his mind at ease, since Ohno would never shower Jun with gifts just to break up with him as soon as he was home.

Ohno would put the rest of his plans in motion after he slept. Rest was a necessary thing, as another coughing spasms wracked his body. Maybe even a visit to the doctor if he did not feel better soon. It was what Jun would want, and Arashi, and what Ohno wanted for himself. To rest and recover.

After getting the picture from Jun, Ohno sent him a reply, a picture of the care package, along with a message,

You were right, sorry that I was a jerk.

And not unexpectedly, Ohno got an almost immediate response of

It is fine, Satoshi. Don’t worry about it. We all have our bad days, in fact I think you had bad years with me and my moods. Just feel better. Nino will take care of you, if you need something while I am gone. I am certain of it. You just need to make sure to ask him.

Along with it was a smiling emoji, as well as a rainbow, something that Jun often used when he was thinking fondly of their band members, and Arashi as a whole, and this was more often than not. It was one of the many things that Ohno loved about Jun. There were so many things to love, really.

And so Ohno--in all his randomness that they all knew and loved--sent Jun random messages: his hand doing the half heart from Troublemaker, wearing one of the wrist cuffs he had given Jun a while ago; a picture of random things that would mean nothing to anyone but them, containing significant memories: food that corresponded with a date, their TIME album, shop photos of the concert when Jun realized he loved Ohno--things to make Jun feel as loved as he possible could.

They did not have much time to talk on the phone, schedules and exhaustion and sickness getting in the way, but Nino babied Ohno for the first day ‘under strict orders from Jun-pon’ (which Ohno did not doubt, and was moved that despite thinking the worst, Jun was still making sure that Ohno was taken care of, even though, as the elder of the two, it should be Ohno taking care of Jun (Ohno usually did, but this time, he had messed up)). So it was just a wait and see.

Ohno had apologized to the rest of the group for being so difficult, and making things uncomfortable for them. They had waved it off, not unexpectedly. Now all he needed to do was make things right with Jun.

~~~~~
Ohno was half asleep on the couch when he heard the keys rattle in the door, but it did not take long for Ohno to come to full awareness. A sleepy ‘Welcome Home’ called out to Jun’s tired, and hesitant, “I am home.” Ohno pushed himself self up, off the couch, rubbing at his face and shuffled to the doorway. He could hear Jun taking off his shoes and he met him in the hallway, taking the bag from him and putting it in the bedroom. He could see that Jun was holding a small present, and Ohno was glad that things were normal enough between them that Jun did not change that habit because of this. When one of them traveled they usually brought something back for the other, and for Ohno, more often than not it was food.
Jun really did know him well.
Ohno made his way back to the living room, and he could see Jun standing there, hesitant. Ohno went right up to him, pulling him into a hug.
“I missed you.” Ohno muttered into his shoulder, and he could feel Jun’s arms tighten around him, though the tension did not ease from his body.
“I missed you too.” Jun admitted, and Ohno could hear from the way that his breath caught in his throat, that Jun wanted to add something else, but he was hesitant, as if he was uncertain of the response that he would receive.
“I am sorry.” Ohno added, shifting slightly you look at Jun as he spoke. “I-you were right, and I should not have said those things, and I am a really sorry, Jun.” Ohno could see Jun relax, slightly, but not completely.
“I told you it was fine, Satoshi.” Jun pulled Ohno close, speaking into his hair, and Ohno racked his brain, trying to figure out what was still bothering Jun, since he did not appear like he was going to open up about it any time soon. What could Ohno have said that would trigger this kind of tension. Jun had never been this… apprehensive (it was the only word that Ohno could think of)… with him, with them.
“It isn’t fine if it is bothering you like this.” Ohno spoke, and he could feel Jun stiffen, and step back, looking at Satoshi with slightly narrowed eyes.
“I-“ Jun stopped, rubbing at the back of his neck, and looking at Ohno. Ohno was sure that Jun could not find the words he wanted, so he would plunge forward himself, and hope that he got something right, and that it would make Jun talk.
“You have every right to be upset with me. I would be upset with me, if I was you. I hurt you, Jun, and I am never supposed to do that.” Ohno paused as Jun’s eyes widened slightly, and returned to normal. It seemed that Ohno was going in the right direction.
“You have every right to care about me, and worry about me, both as a friend and as my lover.” Ohno looked sheepish. “I was wrong, and-“ He paused, the cogs in his brain turning, trying to find the answer, and suddenly everything clicked. He knew what was wrong with Jun, what had him on edge.
“I should not have said something that I did not mean, or even imply something that I did not mean.” Ohno stepped to Jun who stepped back slightly, trying to figure out the sudden deviation in Ohno’s thought process.
“Despite what I caused you to think, there is nothing about Jun that would make me want to leave him.” Ohno leveled his gaze on Jun, dark and serious. He was certain that he looked slightly upset, he was--though it was with himself, and not with Jun, never with Jun, not since things have been revealed to be all Ohno’s mistake.
“Jun is perfect for me just the way that he is, and I am lucky that he chose me, or even gave me a chance.” Ohno’s tone was completely serious, not laced with anything lighthearted or fun, and Ohno could see Jun blinking rapidly, as if he was trying to stop himself from crying. “You are silly for thinking otherwise, but it is unforgivable for me to say something to make you doubt me.” Ohno pulled Jun close, and he could feel the other shaking slightly.
“I love Jun.” He placed a kiss on his shoulder, then on his neck, and then on his cheek, and smiled into the kiss when Jun turned his head towards Ohno’s, meeting his lips. When they broke apart it was Jun who shifted.
“Don’t say those kind of things, if you don’t mean them.” Jun’s words were playful, but Ohno could sense the seriousness behind them. “If I am not what you want, then I will let you go, since I want you to be happy, but-“ Ohno’s mouth opened, as if he was going to speak, but Jun shook his head. “I did not like thinking that I was not enough for you, Satoshi, so if there is something about me that you do not like, please tell me.”
“I will, if there is anything.” Ohno replied, and Jun smirked.
“And not on the dandyism bureau on Shiyagare, please?” Jun’s tone was light and Ohno chuckled. While it was irksome when Jun took his seat, it usually meant that Jun wanted or needed his attention in some way, though he really did find the chopstick thing annoying. He had told Jun about both of those before they aired, so really Jun’s reaction had been more of the, ‘this again, and really, Ohno, that’s the best you have for this?’ kind of reaction.
“Maybe.” Ohno answered, chucking as he pulled Jun close, and this time, when Jun returned the embrace, he was relaxed. Ohno was relieved, the tension that he did not know that he himself was harboring uncurling from his stomach.
They would be alright, and he was very glad.
ohno, juntoshi, jun
