As long as an external mouse works, what's the big deal? Don't waste your money on replacing the touchpad as long as you can still navigate with an external mouse.

It's just really difficult - I sit in a chair that's nowhere near a table in the living room (and we only have the coffee table, which I never sit near). I don't have a desk in my room, and I like to look at my computer while laying in bed, so it's just an inconvenience, really.

Well, I understand that. But I think I'd rather change where I sit than replace some expensive touchpad. That's just me.
