being single is nothing to be ashamed about in our age! we live in a time when most relationships break up and there is no guarantee that even the best ones will last. singleness has a great many benefits that those couples envy would give an arm or a leg for. but how many of us are really happy being single

And of course, we have other kinds of relationships - friendships, familial, etc - which are no less important or enriching to our lives. But in our romance obsessed culture, somehow, romantic relationships have been accorded hegemonic status!
