Understudies

While I have a huge appreciation for the job of the understudy (then the crowd is hostile, the star's not on the bill... nunsense...anyone? no one?)

I appreciate it more when they remain understudies, particularly when I've been salivating about this particular show.

Show was still good, but I want Alice! Guess I'm going back...

Not sure about Nunsense, but my mom & I drove to Chicago over the holidays (from MN) to see Wicked - with the hopes of seeing Annaleigh. Dee was Elphaba (she was eh, ok), but Annaleigh wasn't on. Her understudy, though (Michelle London) was completely awesome.

I would, likely, go back if there was someone in particular I wanted to see. But it was nice to see an understudy blow it out of the water. :)

Well, her understudy was fantastic. Simply fantastic, and has clearly been paying attention to Alice's choices in the role, b/c I saw a lot of her mannerisms and tics. It just would have been nice to actually see her... ;-)

One time when I was at the Chicago show, a few years back, I had the understudy...it was Carmen Cusack's first on as Elphaba. She blew the roof off of the Oriental. I was so knocked out I even took the time to e-mail the Schwartz site and compliment the production team on picking such a fantastic u/s. She is a super performer. I think Dee is OK, but not stellar.
21 days to Teal/Kendra!

That's a bummer...I soooo want to see Alice and Emily.....in anything! I listen to their Town Hall CD all the time in the car. It makes me happy. Skinny Bitch and Fucking Amazing! being highlights! Then there is the singing!
