I had a similar reaction the first time I saw the 1931 Tiffany film The Drums of Jeopardy, in which Warner Oland played a mad Russian scientist named ... Dr. Boris Karlov!

Then you guys would have a ball reading the Shadow novel "The Fifth Napoleon" One of the characters is a gangster named Mike Hammer!

That happens every now and then, you come across a familiar name attached to a character long before the real person became famous. Sometimes it can be hilarious... I expect to find a 1970s Death Merchant with a neurosurgeon Dr Britney Spears or something like that.

... but I'm almost there!

I'm almost done with "Murder Mirage."

It's been slow going. It's taken me 8 days when I usually read these in 4 or 5. It's not really bad, it's just a little off.

I guess I'm getting a little better at sensing when I'm reading a book by one of Dent's ghosts because I had a feeling about this one. When I was about halfway through, I checked the list in "The Frightened Fish" and, sure enough, "Murder Mirage" is attributed to Laurence Donovan!

I sure wish they would give Pat more to do when they decide to use her! Here, pretty much all she does is get captured three times by the same guy! (Darn dames! Always getting captured and gumming up the works!)

I forgot to mention, "Murder Mirage" is the one where Monk says, "Howlin' calamaties!" over and over, much to the annoyance of Will Murray.
