I have a handful of London illustrated newspapers from the 1800s and the work that went into that art is astonishing.

Great stuff, and more than a little disturbing. It looks like William Hogarth channeling Hieronymous Bosch.

Nicely put. Every now and then, I stumble across an artist like this. (I discovered Goya in grade school and gave myself a few nightmares.)
