I would imagine that walking bass line would be difficult to keep up for 3 minutes, not to mention having to sing as well. That could account for why they didn't play it live.

That's a good point. Toward the end of their touring days, the Beatles were creating songs that would be increasingly difficult to perform live (and soon, almost impossible).
