Because Capitol Records' version of the "Help!" album included only the songs that appeared in the film, the label held back "Yesterday" and "Act Naturally" and issued them as a non-LP single.
As the B-side of the U.S. single, "Act Naturally" peaked at No. 47 in October 1965. The two songs made their first U.S. album appearance on "Yesterday and Today" (20 Jun 1966).
When the single was reissued on Apple Records in 1971, "Act Naturally" had the "full apple" side and "Yesterday" ended up on the "sliced apple" side, because "Act Naturally" had been the intended A-side and has always been listed as such in Capitol's files.
I like the buck owens version, man that guy could play and what a voice. My dad listened to Buck as a young man, so I naturally scorned him, but its funny, the older I get the more I find out that dad was usually right.
Now you have me imagining an alternate universe where Ringo does a guest spot on "Hee Haw" and doing a duet with Buck while wearing a pair of bib overalls. Ringo trades bad jokes with Junior Samples and asks Grandpa Jones "What's fer Supper Grandpa? Later the cast does a Cornfield County Salute to Liverpool. Population 466,414.
Ten years ago, the Deraillers were one of the best bands for recreating the Bakersfield sound.
All this nostalgia lead me to check wikipedia, which lead to youtube and come to find out, ole buck and ringo did a duet of "act naturally" waaay back in '89, it even had a bit part with vic tayback as the barkeep, well worth checking out! Sometimes I marvel, we have the wealth of human knowledge at our fingertips...
