The artist is Ulises Farinas; his anatomical sketch of the Thing appears on this page from the blog WEST COAST AVENGERS, along with wonderful MAD-magazinesque shots of Dr. Strange amidst the clutter of the Sanctorum and a typical day in beautiful Marvelverse! Manhattan.
I notice working models of a couple of Leonardo da Vinci's flying machines, along with a Lava Lamp and Bubo the robot owl from the original CLASH OF THE TITANS.
(And now I'm speculating that the Marvel Universe version of Obscura, the Olde Curiosity Shoppe featured in ODDITIES, practically has to number Strange among their clientele.)
Which brings to mind Michael Moorcock's short story "The Stone Thing: A Tale of Strange Parts"; the hero is a composite parody of Elric and Corum, trudging along with an inventory of magical prostheses and legendary weapons that would do a munchkin D&D player proud.
Unfortunately, once our hero has won the fair damsel, we discover the downside of his condition:
"...Is it not beautiful? More beautiful than that which it has replaced?"
Her glance was modest; she nodded slowly.
"It is indeed, very beautiful," she agreed. And then she looked up at him and he saw that tears glistened in her eyes. "But did it have to be made of Sandstone?"
"There is little else," he explained sadly, "in the mountains beyond Katatonia."
