Billy Joel is coming to Jazzfest, Ray Nagin is indicted, and the butcher at Fresh Market called me "sir." This has been a beautiful day in New Orleans.
I was just trawling through some pictures and ran across my pics of Billy Joel's set at the 2008 Jazzfest, with the rain pouring down on the piano. Hope it doesn't rain like that this year.
Holy shit! I remember years ago you observing how living in New Orleans is like living in some banana republic. After reading the following definition and reading the article above, I see what you meant. From Wikipedia: Banana republic is a political science term for a politically unstable country whose economy is largely dependent on the export of a single limited-resource product, such as fruits or minerals. It typically has stratified social classes, including a large, impoverished working class and a ruling plutocracy that comprises the elites of business, politics, and the military.[1]This politico-economic oligarchy controls the primary-sector productions and thereby exploit the country's economy.
