Hey Neighbor, What Kind Of Beer Do You Like?

Beer for dinner last night, pot roast for breakfast this morning: The Manly Man Diet. Without realizing it, I've gotten back into drinking training again (I mostly quit last year because it seemed to disagree with one of my medications -- I don't remember what, some SSRI I'm no longer taking). I guess that's what happens when you do all your ( Read more... )

Mmm, Purple Haze. I prefer the Abita Turbo Dog though. Readily available Abita of any kind is one of the main things I miss about living in Louisiana.

Of course, I know as soon as I leave Texas I'll go through the same thing. "Wait, what? What do you mean you don't have Shiner Bock on tap? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE?" :D

aside from being tasty, purple haze is also pretty. i <3 pouring it into a pilsner just to look at it.

i'm in the middle of kentucky and seems like i've seen shiner at our large liquor store...

If you haven't try the various types of "Abita" on tap when you have a chance. If you don't care for one variety, you may like a different one. Also the to look for on tap, the new (opened 2009) "NOLA" (New Orleans Lager & Ale) beers.

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, Victory HopWallop, Avery Maharaja.

I am in love with the most bitter beers always.

If I lived in New Orleans, I would drink Abita 24/7. I love their stuff. The Restoration is really nice for a sit-around-the-bar drink.

Restoration is so great, but, I haven't been able to find it for at least a year.

We almost always have a six pack of Abita Amber in the fridge, though. We started buying it regularly when Abita came back online after Katrina.

Luchog and I are terrible beer snobs *grin* so it's hard to pick just a couple of faves. Right now I think I'd probably say New Belgium La Terroir, Epic Ales Terrasaurus, Boneyard's Armored Fist, Black Raven's Trickster, and Southern Tier's Mokah. 3 of those are there because I just drank them at a local Hopfest.

Zia: I love the hopmonsters too, at least in hot weather. Have you had any Russian River Pliny the Elder? Also if you're ever out in the Washington/Oregon area, you need to check out a tiny little brewery called Walking Man, their Homo Erectus and variants are soooooo good, but they don't bottle, so you have to find it draft.

Apparently, Russian River beers aren't available in New York according to BeerMenu. I think I've heard the name but not sure if I've had them yet-- I've certainly not had Pliny.

I have never been to the PacNW! I would like to go!

Darn, and it doesn't look as if you can get Ninkasi there either!

Ah well, you have the ability to visit Dogfish Head and Allagash on road trips. If you get the chance (and like lambic, the real stuff not the sodapop kind) keep an eye out for Allagash's Drunken Promise, aka Ghouleschip: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/allagash-ghouleschip/94706/

And if you ever find your way out this way, Luchog and I would be glad to give you the beer-lover's tour of the area.

May I post here what you texted me last night from the Phœnix, which had me laughing like a mad little thing?

"I sprained my leg on a black man."
