It's Called Being Broken

Y'all know how I am -- I don't listen to any music released after 1993. But if I see one more Internet fool going on about how Amy Winehouse "chose" her "lifestyle" and "chose" to die, I'm gonna punch a motherfucker. What the fuck is wrong with people who need to proclaim this kind of shit? Do they actually feel superior because they are not sick, ( Read more... )

drugs, music

im not surprised, which apparently makes me an asshole, according to some.

But twice I've had friends with addictions and the resultant drama and issues come spilling into my life on a personal way and I have had to back up and go "I'll support you in sobriety, but if this is how you continue, i'm off this sinking ship."

Both got clean, well, one fully sober, one still a trainwreck, but a semi clean one.

I just get irritated that people say it was OTHERS feeding her drugs because it made them more money to have her photographed on hands and knees in the city. The blame-shift..I dunno. I get that you can't force someone to rehab if they don't want it. OH how I know, but saying it was everyone around her, I am not fully buying. Was I to blame for my friend not being sober? i didn't buy him alcohol or drugs.

Its a shame a talent like that's gone but it simply wasn't a shock. No one chooses to get addicted or die, obviously.

Actually some do. I had an acquaintance who wanted to be a junky when he grew up. Of course this was rather more easily achieved and nothing like as much fun as he had anticipated, and getting clean was desirable and also not, and hard, and he did also choose his death because he suicided... but there are plenty of people who used the same drugs and lived the same lifestyle who survived, and cleaned up, because they could and he could not.

Some people just cannot clean up. And that is sad, and not their fault.

It took me about 78 seconds to hit my saturation point on that bullshit.

I remember getting into ridiculous arguments with assholes saying that Layne Staley deserved to die.

nobody deserves to die the way Layne Staley did, and certainly not Layne Staley. I totally understand.

Yes, exactly. When I heard of her death, I just felt sadness and dismay.
