[007] A Message

Posted somewhere in the open, but with something to the effect of 'To OSTA with ♥' tagged onto the header.

-((ћ2/2m) (d2/dx2)) ψ(x) + V(x)ψ(x) = Eψ(x)

((d2/dx2) ψ(x)) = 2m/ћ2 (V(x) - E)ψ(x)

?

Um, why are you...?

Besides, it's wrong. Dad dispro That theory was disproven several years ago.

But we're not talking about your world/universe here.

Is it? Brilliant.

I think it was shortly after he invented supertoast. The media never picked up on it, and he only covered it in a little sidebar on his show, but I keep up on this stuff.

Supertoast? That sounds tasty~ What is it?

My, I more or less just finished reading about this. I find that rather amusing.

Great! Then perhaps we'll soon find out whether or not we're actually seeing this equation used in practice.

It would certainly be helpful, yes. By the way, have you settled matters with Dr. McKay by now? I'll have a cup of tea waiting for you both once you arrive.

You will be able to find your way, won't you?

Tea! Fantastic. I'll be there as soon as I can. Your coordinates were perfect. There won't be any problems if I have anything to say about it.

Now, the TARDIS might have other ideas, but I'll make sure she behaves.

[OOC: It's tunnelling. Actually- it's more mechanics than theory. It seems there's a good amount of basis for it. But think Sliders. Sliders uses quantum tunnelling and wormhole theory.]

Cute, but this was inevitably proved incorrect. Although, that was a portion of the original template for a much more complicated basis on wormhole theory. One that, by the way, I later amended and updated.

At least, I assume that is what you meant by this.

And to our gracious host...I'd prefer a pot of coffee quite frankly. And make sure you get a cream supplement. I can't have straight cream.

Close! Indeed, very close!

But yes. I figured you would know a bit on wormhole theory. Even more impressive that you amended and updated it.

It's for things like these that I love you humans.

I'm terribly sorry, but I'm afraid tea is all I have at the moment. Perhaps next time I'll be able to scrounge up some coffee.

I may have coffee somewhere on the TARDIS. Or at least some other variant similar to it.

I once went to this one planet that had the most interesting drink, actually. It wasn't quite like coffee. More like chai, actually, but made with a type of root native to their planet.

Interesting flavor, really.

I- er- That's pretty complex, isn't it? What does it mean?

Well, it's quantum mechanics equation. The beginning is a time-dependant Shrodinger Equation. This was developed by Erwin Shrodinger who, basically created the idea of quantum mechanics with his proposed equation... though I can't see what he had against cats, personally... -though, I'm not the best of friends with them myself, however...

Anyway! That goes into the uncertainty principle- which is basically the statement that in the attempt to capture and measure the particle in question, it has changed, and it no longer has the appearance it had when in nature.

Quantum tunnelling means that the particle has appeared to jump through the wavelength (particles and such are measured in wavelengths in this case) in the attempt to measure it.

...thus tunnelling.

After a bit of searching (amazing what this thing links to!), I found the cat thing you're talking about. That's fascinating! Though a bit morbid...

So... basically... like you're trying to look at something that's not there/the same thing anymore?

Wow, that's really something else! Like... I don't think I really get it at all, but maybe if I stick around long enough I'll start to pick things up?

doc_in_converse July 30 2007, 22:29:16 UTC
Well, sorta. When you take the tunnelling aspect itself into account, it's the idea of particles appearing to jump from place to place when you try to observe them.

A little like what the teleporters allow us to do, wouldn't you think?

...or is it a little more like the method that OSTA's made with the zombies and troubles from Weisdia?
