Good News

I found out that one of my Afghani friends recently had his first baby. That's awesome. I wish I could have seen the kid. I've avoided writing about the Afghans (or even other soldiers) specifically, but I've got tons of stuff on film for when I finally get back. Yes, this bit of news made my day ( Read more... )

Hell yeah. It's insipid. The mental loops an apologist will jump through in academia would be funny if they weren't taken so seriously and didn't concern such dismal topics ( ... )

I think a huge problem with criticism is the fact that this is another culture and whether it is right and moral to enforce our own values and morals on others. Personally, I believe in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, but the stumbling block I come across is whether my particular take on morality (if the parties consented to the act voluntarily without force, coercion, etc. and with full information or the full and free access to that full information considering stuff like what's involved and possible consequences, etc.) is necessarily right (well, actually I know it's right, but that's just because I'm egotistical ;) ). On top of that, since I'm so bent on consent, it would then make my own actions wrong if I were to -force- others to adopt my views ( ... )

Though all I said above doesn't tend to stop me from telling people certain things are sick and/or wrong.

Or trying to lure people to my side of the force, heehee. (Er, not that I do that, of course.... *shifty eyes*)
