One thing that's often been repeated on here as well as elsewhere in the fandom is that Oberyn can be paired with anyone. But is this really true?

It may involve a slight rearrangement of where Oberyn was during canon history. xD

Rhaegar Targaryen's blood flowed with the river, yet still Robert's hammer hit down again and again. "You will never," slam, "hurt her," slam, "again," slam. The hammer hit the breastplate inward, and it resisted the pull upward at first. The giant, a maiden's dream, looked up at those around him. Most looked away and began to round up those who would surrender.

One dark haired man stared at him.

"What?" Robert demanded.

"You cared that he hurt her?" the Martell asked.

"He had no right," Robert stepped out of the water, blood and gore splattered across him. The battle was oevr. It was time for drinking. He began stripping off his armor.

Robert had looked down to remove his breastplate, which had dropped to the ground. When he looked up, Oberyn was quite close. "What?" the champion demanded.

Oberyn reached up, grabbed the bloody man's face, and kissed him.
