Title: His Badly Drawn Boy
Pairing: Vaguely Ryan/Spencer
Summary: In the
rada 'verse, you should write a snippet where it becomes clear what Spencer does for a living. It is killing me. Perhaps a scene from (I watch) the sky coming down to bury me, between when Ryan asks Spencer to go back to England with him and when they leave.

It's strange, packing his things into a box, knowing that the next person to work at his desk won't care or know who worked there before them. Spencer thinks of leaving a note - a poetic post it that Ryan would no doubt appreciate - but common sense gets the better of him. He's working in this cubicle for years now, next to Sarah and Carlos and across from the creepy new guy who's worked there almost as long as him. Spencer has always wanted to learn his name, but now doesn't exactly seem like the right time. He's deleted all his files off of his computer, has basically turned it back into the empty shell he'd gotten three years ago.
There's a poster from one of Ryan's shows that he's yet to take down, but Spencer thinks that'll be the last thing. Ryan doesn't know he has it, would probably make him throw it away if he did, but this show was the most important to him, because it was about Ryan and Spencer and their relationship. It was a relatively happy piece and it had moved Spencer to tears because he finally knew how Ryan had felt at that moment. It's probably the reason why Spencer had agreed to move to England. He loves Ryan more than life itself, but sometimes, he thinks it takes a little more than faith to know someone loves you that much in return.
He takes the To-Do list of the cork board - 'sign off on the limited edition copies' at the top - screws it up and throws it in the bin. It feels vaguely liberating, knowing that there's something waiting for him in England even though he's leaving here. Ryan's advance on his first show is paying the deposit on the house and their savings are covering everything else, so he doesn't have to worry about money for a little while. He rolls up the poster and slots it into an opening in the box and then picks it up, looking around the office for the last time.
Spencer walks to his boss' office, knocking on the door and opening it in one continuous movement. His boss is strangely open about the office, actually adopting the 'open door policy' with vigour and sincerity. He puts the box on the sofa and walks straight into Ashlee's open arms. She's a good boss, firm but caring, and Spencer's really going to miss her. He knwos that they'll see each other again, but not in the same way. She helped secure his position in England, but she's no longer his boss, as of 5:00 this afternoon.
"I'm sad to see you go, Spencer Smith. But I understand that love is important and that you must follow your heart. Now, let's get the paperwork sorted." They have transfer papers to sign and contracts to work out and this is business time. Spencer has his business hat on.
When it's time to leave, Spencer gets another hug from Ashlee, as well as one from Sarah, a pat on the ass from Carlos and a quick grope from the creepy guy. He lets it go, because he's almost out. He picks up his box and, with one last wave, is gone. Once he gets out in the open air, he looks up at the building and sighs. This isn't his home anymore. As much as working as an artist liaison is tedious and stressful, he loves his job. He just hopes that the new comic book company in England is as wonderful as Marvel was.
