There is a room often spoken of but rarely seen. A had no idea what he'd stumbled into on his ubiquitous search for cigarettes, but he found something he desired even more

[Alternate will hear the sound of Misa's voice from behind him.]
Um...
[At first she sounds confused, then her voice drops into a hushed, disbelieving mutter.]
... what the fuck.
[She kneels down and picks up the object from the corner closest to the door. She holds it by two fingers and dangles it upside down in front of her face, eyes squinting as she carefully scrutinizes it.
[So he knew of the term, at least. Her heart drops a notch. What else did he know surrounding the Kira case?]
Essentially.
[She would say more, but it feels a bit awkward, like a curse almost. So she decides to keep her mouth shut unless Alternate prompts her with more questions; in that case, she would have to answer them to avoid suspicion.]
A frowned, he suspected there was a link then between the notebooks and the eyes then, however that is not his concern. He's already dead in his world, he cannot save his L, but he can save Amel, or at least protect him.
"I see, listen, Miss Amane, it's very important you don't drop his name so easily," his tone was almost pleading, and certainly courteous. "You know then he is still alive, and he can go home one day. Not only his B is here, but others from his world, and as a successor it is necessary his name remains a secret."
[Misa recalls Amel telling her the exact same thing and her heart drops even more, all the way into the pit of her stomach. It was shameful the way she threw importance secrets around so causally. Though she hated being berated, even if it wasn't direct, and it was veiled by a gentlemanly shroud. It was simply the feeling of inferiority that annoyed her, even though she knew it was her fault.
"I wonder if..."
To hell with it. Nothing to lose now.
Misa tilts her head.]
But in exchange for my silence... may I ask...what is your real name?
A looked surprised at her request of course, surely she could see he was dead, what worth did the name of a dead man have? Though with that in mind he answered her question.
“Anslem Aslem, though, you already knew that,” he pointed out with a cock of the head. Though he only recalled it so well was because it was the last thing his B had ever said to him.
"The dead don't have names?" He hadn't known that, and somehow he couldn't help but to find that a little cruel. "Well no matter, I hate to say it's a rather worthless exchange, my name for his."
He smiled a little himself, "I actually nearly forgot my name when I was alive, it meant so little to me."
A blinked, only Amel ever called him Anslem, it was a sign of their love. Nevertheless, Misa had agreed to protect Amel, and quite frankly the idea she had these powers made him want to be on her good side.
“If we’re alone, it be fine, “he told her. As long as no one finds out why you know my name.
[Misa rummages around for the meaning behind his words, but can't seem to find much. She would ask him to drop the 'Miss Amane' thing, but frankly, she's several years older than him, plus it humored her.]
Alright. [A smile. "And seeing as you were so courteous, Mr. Gentleman..."] Is there anything else you would like to know?
A cocked his head, uncertain what she was implying, if anything. He did have some curiousity about the eyes however.
"Yes...so dead people don't have names, I can see why that is, it's because the Shinigami wouldn't be able to kill them," he began, he paused and licked his lips. "However, what about the numbers? I mean, have you noticed them working differently in the Mansion?"
Not that I know of. The numbers that represents a person's lifespan always stays the same no matter what - in the mansion as well as in my world (and I presume yours). I'm not even sure how I'm able to interpret the numbers into dates and time... it's an unexplainable thing, really.
"So basically...they have no meaning here?" A asked for clarification. There was a very troubled look on his face, unknown to Misa he had also once died here-killed by a B. So I died probably for an experiment then.
Basically. I can tell how long somebody has left to live once they return to their world. But in this building, all time is stationary. Even if you have less than a second to live in your original world - you can stay here for years and still be alive.
Which is probably the only thing that saved Amel's life during this last encounter, the time he has left in his world. A realized. He looked at Misa gravely.
"Miss Amane, it's very important, for all of us, if that B I mentioned never learns of this. He may come to realize it on his own, but it hardly needs to be an easy task for him." His eyes narrowed, wondering if there was even a way to deceive him. He gave a sardonic laugh, "but it's not like you seek him out though, right?"
Um...

It's a light bulb.]

No, I don't. I can't see the names of dead people. So I always knew you were dead because you didn't have a name floating above your head.
