[One of the doors opens up and out comes a female Mello stumbling backwards and then toppling over ]

[ She takes a second to get herself back up before looking around with an irritated and puzzled look]

What the fuck?

(ooc: Hey. I bring new one for the masses. Mostly canon outside of the chick factor. Taken sometime before kidnapping Sayu.)

arrival, mello

*L almost trips over Mello.*

I don't think I have ever seen someone ejected from a room quite like that.

*He's aware that she's probably a new arrival; What will she say?*

*He considers her last question.*

There might have been, in the past, but -- no, not to my knowledge.

Yagami's father is unaware that he is acting as Kira. I am told that he will be killed as a direct result of the abduction plan, but I cannot say which would be for the best. If he lives to learn that his son is Kira --

*He gives Mello a bewildered look; it seems possible that Soichiro Yagami is as doomed as his son, in any world in which Light writes even a single name in the Death Note.*

[She frowns briefly.] That's unfortunate. He seems like a good cop.

*His eyebrows draw together.*

Yes, he is a dedicated officer -- one of the most dedicated I have seen, but he has a blind spot. Too much personal idealism, maybe. He is unable to believe that his own son could be Kira. His goal shifts too far, sometimes, to the side of wanting to exonerate Light; he should want to catch Kira regardless of his identity.

Is there no convincing him?

It seems he doesn't want to be convinced. If he is convinced -- well, I think it would be the end for him, and probably for Light, too.

He'd kill himself and Kira? ...That's not so bad, right?

Reply

No, it isn't so bad.

*He sighs.*

I would say that it would be better to keep him alive -- he is, as you say, a good officer -- but I think he would be useless for police work after that in any case. Useless for much of anything.

A real shame but I suppose if nothing can be done about it and he'd end up useless it isn't a great loss.

*He makes a gesture of equanimity, tilting his head this way, then that.*

Still, we should value lives whenever possible.

[A quick nod.] Right of course.

*His gaze sharpens.*

Something tells me you aren't convinced.

*... my experience with your doubles, he thinks.*

[She fidgets slightly under his gaze. Fuck.] We should value lives. I'm not going to argue that at all. If I didn't think so I'd be for Kira. I completely agree but.. isn't it necessary to make sacrifices sometimes?

It would be possible to think otherwise and not be for Kira,

*he suggests, bland and mild.*

However -- you are correct; it is sometimes necessary to make sacrifices.

Which sacrifice do you choose, then?

Do I choose? I would sacrifice anyone if it worked.

Even yourself?

*There's nothing in his expression that suggests a correct answer.*
