time for teletubbies

Apr 01, 2009 00:05

Despite the pop-culture rock he's lived under all his adult life, Light didn't manage to escape its trivialities while he was growing up. So when the kitchen door slams behind him, and he steps into a rolling green landscape dotted with colourful plastic flowers and windmills, and populated exclusively by tame rabbits, he knows exactly where he is ( Read more... )

"Why does it look like a two-year-old just threw up in here?"

[Light looks paler and thinner than the last time you saw him - or is it just a side-effect of the nauseating décor? Having recently been reminded of one of the reasons he hates Mellos so much, he treats you to a smile.]

Someone has a sense of humour. I assure you this wasn't my idea.

"This is a little too far, even for you."

Yes, some things are too terrible for even me to contemplate.

[It's expansive. Overhead, the baby screeches: Light doesn't quite flinch: it hadn't seemed as if you knew about him last time, so is that just a holdover from the exchange of insults?]

There's....there's a baby in the sky.

[ Ryuk's more than a little confused as she looks up at the sun-child. ]

What, the shinigami realm didn't have a baby in the sky?

[The glare's subdued enough: this room's well beneath his dignity.]

Not that I was aware of. I'll check later~

[ And she's very subtly rubbing in the fact that she may leave and he can't. ]

What's the theme of this room supposed to be?

[One eyebrow goes up, at the singsong tone. He jabs back.]

I'm sure you'll find that place as fascinating as you ever did.

This is based on a TV programme, for very young children. It isn't badly designed, just ... sickly.

Yes, it is. Don't have an embolism over it.

[Weary and impatient.]

[ snaps out of it and looks up at Light, eyes wide. ]

What's an "embolism"?

It's when you do something so stupid your brain spontaneously explodes.

[The glare cracks into something approaching neutrality.]

You used to watch this, did you?

*When L steps into the room, his first response is to stop, stock-still, and stare. He murmurs, under his breath -- *

Not the kitchen.

*Noticing that one of the rabbits is staring at him in what feels like an ominous way, he returns the favor.*

Unless rabbit's on the menu, which I doubt.

[Ever so slightly amused by you.]

*A shrug.*

I would not eat it if it were. Would you, Light?

*He flashes a small, insincere smile in Light's general direction.*

[The smile's twisted on itself, reflected back.]

Certainly, if someone wanted to offer it to me.

*Between Mel's parents not having a television and having spent the rest of her childhood buried in books, she has remained blissfully ignorant of all but the vaguest idea of Teletubbies' existence. Until now.*

What the fuck is wrong with the sky?

*It's so awful that she can't look away.*

[So she's back, then. Light ignores you, as if you never came in. He's sitting nearby on the grass, sketching the dome, and doesn't look concerned about you in any way.

When he wants to be, and when nothing intervenes, he's a terrific actor.]

*She's been wanting to talk to Light, if only to assess his current state of mind and possible threat level. She goes over, and sounds casual when she speaks.*

You really want to record this for posterity?

It's something to do, Mel.

[In the bright sunlight, he looks terribly pale and sick and overdressed. Where he's laying the wireframes of his surroundings down on paper, his wrist pokes from his jacket: not emaciated yet, but well on his way.]

You're yourself again?
